The Equine Assistant for Horseback Riding (HBR) for Blackberry will have at least five years of equestrian or horse handling experience and will demonstrate the basic skills necessary to work with horses safely. The Equine Assistant will:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Safely catch, halter, and lead horses
• Have a basic understanding of equine psychology to handle horses in a busy and challenging environment safely
• Be conscious of guest safety when handling horses
• Clean stalls, stables, tack and equipment
• Assist in keeping Stables and grounds neat and attractive
• Groom horses for guests and private owners
• Be capable of administering equine first and medication
• Hold horses for farrier/vet/treatment
• Assist instructor Guides in tacking up
• Assist instructor Guides in harnessing carriage horses and carriage prep
• Assist in equine management, care, and feeding
• Graciously greet guests and facilitate any paperwork
• Know HBR offerings and confidently communicate descriptions to guests
• Utilize basic computer skills to assist with scheduling
Must comply with all company policies and procedures.
Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Must be able to work well with other Team Members and managers and interact with our guests.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• None
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of five years of equine handling
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
LANGUAGE SKILLS
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to communicate with guests, team members, and managers effectively
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
• Basic knowledge and understanding of math
REASONING ABILITY
• Must be able to resolve any issues regarding guests concerning the equestrian
• Must be able to exercise judgment and make decisions based on job knowledge and awareness of company goals
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to operate any motorized company vehicle safely
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
