Prior Authorization Specialist

Location: Wallingford, CT (On-site)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Employment Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire

Position Overview

A leading cardiology practice in Connecticut is seeking a Prior Authorization Specialist to join its Wallingford office. This individual will play a key role in supporting patient care by obtaining timely insurance approvals for cardiology procedures, imaging services, and medications while ensuring a seamless experience for patients and providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Submit, track, and follow up on prior authorization requests for procedures, diagnostic testing, imaging, and medications.
  • Verify insurance benefits and coverage requirements.
  • Review Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and resolve authorization-related issues.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers, patients, providers, and clinical staff regarding authorization status.
  • Document all authorization activity accurately within the EMR system.
  • Follow up on pending requests, denials, and appeals to minimize delays in patient care.
  • Maintain current knowledge of payer guidelines and cardiology-specific authorization requirements.
  • Assist with patient scheduling, registration, and other front-office support functions as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of prior authorization, medical office, patient access, or healthcare administrative experience.
  • Experience with insurance verification and prior authorizations.
  • Knowledge of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
