Location: New Jersey (Onsite/Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Interoperability & Infrastructure Engineer to support and enhance our healthcare technology environment. This role combines healthcare system integration expertise, infrastructure administration, and technical leadership to ensure reliable communication between Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other clinical applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with healthcare interoperability standards, HL7 interfaces, integration engines, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise IT systems. This position will play a key role in designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining mission-critical healthcare integrations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, and support HL7 interfaces between LIS, EMR, and healthcare applications.
  • Manage and troubleshoot inbound and outbound healthcare integrations using interface engines.
  • Analyze HL7 messages (ORM, ORU, ACK, ADT, etc.) and resolve mapping, routing, and workflow issues.
  • Support interoperability projects including new interface implementations, upgrades, migrations, and system enhancements.
  • Configure and maintain secure connectivity solutions including VPN, SFTP, TCP/IP, and other healthcare data exchange methods.
  • Provide infrastructure support for servers, cloud environments, networking, and application platforms.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot production issues, and implement proactive solutions.
  • Collaborate with vendors, clinical teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful integrations.
  • Develop technical documentation, interface specifications, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in testing, validation, and go-live activities, including occasional after-hours support when required.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare IT, interoperability, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong experience with HL7 v2.x messaging standards and healthcare integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with LIS/EMR integrations and interface troubleshooting.
  • Experience with interface engines such as Mirth Connect or similar platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, VPN, SFTP, firewalls, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting Windows Server environments and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex technical issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Experience with healthcare applications such as Orchard, Cerner, Epic, Meditech, PCC, SigmaCare, or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, LOINC, and FHIR.
  • Experience with system migrations, validation, and production deployments.
  • Experience working in regulated healthcare environments (CLIA/CAP/HIPAA)
