As a Renewable Environmental Specialist II at Alliant Energy, you'll support wind, solar, wetlands, linear utility projects, and wildlife initiatives while partnering with engineers, operations teams, and regulatory agencies to advance critical energy infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to apply your environmental expertise to renewable and utility projects that deliver reliable energy, support sustainable growth, and protect the natural resources and communities we serve. This hybrid role combines office collaboration with field work, typically 1-3 days per week in the office or at project sites.
Job Summary
Environmental Specialist II performs data collection for the preparation of environmental or research policy studies and assists management and senior environmental specialists in enhancements to the environmental management system. This position analyzes and evaluates the environmental impacts of Alliant Energy operations on air, waste, and water quality; ecological systems; or other environmental resources. This role recommends improvements to existing environmental practices.
What you will do
  • Collects and maintains data for environmental studies from company facilities and other departments. Interprets data, prepares reports, illustrations and charts of environmental compliance and performance and management statistics.
  • Provides technical support in environmental management system program modification and implementation of improvements to the system.
  • Works with internal customers on environmental and research projects and analyzes improvements to workflow, policies, and practices.
  • Supports customers in the development of environmental education materials and participates in training of business unit staff.
  • Represents Alliant Energy in regulatory and utility meetings or hearings.
  • Tracks performance of business units and assesses compliance status with respect to regulations; conducts onsite investigations and provides analysis on outcome of investigation.
  • Provides technical guidance to the field by interpreting and monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering; environmental studies or related area Preferred

Required Experience
  • 2 years of experience in environmental engineering, science, compliance planning work or environmental resource management with an electric utility, consulting firm, or government agency

Other Requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management) preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range:
$80,000-$90,000
This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
