Job description

Our client, a leading Environmental Testing Lab located here in Rochester, is looking for a Field Technician to support their customers across New York.  This is a perfect opportunity for a new graduate with an Environmental Studies degree.
Details:
Monday-Friday, 8a-5p (could vary slightly depending on the day)
Pay: $17-20/hr
Contract to Hire
Travel: 100% paid overnight travel 2 weeks per quarter within New York State
The main focus of the field team is to manage sampling events in order to obtain ground water, surface water, soils and various other samples for subsequent analysis by the laboratory. This work is normally performed with modified Level D safety requirements (street clothes plus safety glasses, nitrile gloves and steel toed boots).  These sampling projects occur at many larger industrial clients and municipal sites throughout NYS. Most scope of work is mandated by the NYSDEC, USEPA or local County Agencies. Daily activities are almost exclusively outdoors 12 months out of the year and candidates must be willing to deal with changing conditions.
Candidate Requirements:
2 year Degree or substantial college coursework relating to Environmental Studies
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills
Desire to work outside every day
Ability to think on their feet
Must be insurable with a clean (no points) driver's license 
Must pass drug screen 
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Willingness to travel overnight for various projects within NYS approximately 2 weeks per quarter (all travel expenses paid by employer)
This job requires detailed knowledge of all applicable sampling methods, equipment and techniques currently in use, site specific sampling protocols, ground water remediation systems, regulatory agency guidelines, water chemistry, field analytical methods, OSHA safety regulations, storm water management principles, ground water geology, hydrology, limnology, project planning and management and documentation required to properly complete a project.
Another important responsibility techs have is to effectively interact with our clients and various regulatory agency personnel on a routine basis. The technician will receive supervised training and guidance in these areas to allow them to excel as an environmental sampling technician.
