Oxford College, a unique two-year liberal arts undergraduate college within Emory University,invites applications fora tenure-track position in Environmental Science at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 1, 2027. We seek applications from candidates who can contribute to the educational and intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. We seek candidates committed to joining an academic community dedicated to teaching and mentoring a diverse population of motivated first- and second-year undergraduates, maintaining an active program of scholarship, and engaging in service broadly defined.
We seek a broadly-trained environmental scientist with expertise in environmental policy and the ability to teach within the natural sciences. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach an introductory Environmental Policy course, as well as our Introduction to Environmental Studies course, which covers topics such as sustainability, biogeochemical cycles, ecology, Earth systems, energy resources, and climate change, and includes a field-based lab component. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to develop additional courses for both majors and non-majors, including a first-year discovery seminar, based on their expertise. Candidates with the flexibility to contribute to a range of courses within the environmental science curriculum are especially encouraged to apply.
The typical teaching load for Oxford College faculty in the sciences is two courses, with associated labs (or the equivalent) each semester. Prospective candidates will have a commitment to excellence in teaching as well as engagement in an active research program with the potential to involve undergraduates. The Oxford Science Building, which opened in 2016, is designed to promote student-faculty collaboration, scholarship, and innovative teaching in STEM. In addition to excellent facilities, Oxford College has several programs to support teaching, professional development, and grant seeking, such as the Oxford Center for Teaching and Scholarship.

Required -
• A Ph.D. in environmental science or a sub-discipline, completed by date of appointment.
Preferred -
• Candidates with experience in inquiry-based teaching, student-centered learning, and the potential to involve Oxford undergraduate students in research are particularly encouraged to apply.

• Teaching Statement: a 1-2-page teaching statement that articulates the candidate's teaching philosophy, outlines specific teaching goals, describes their approach to inclusive teaching practices, and details past participation in, or future plans for, professional development related to teaching.
• Evidence of Teaching Effectiveness (one PDF, no more than 8 pages): Materials that document the teaching practices and outcomes described in the candidate's teaching statement. These might include syllabi or proposed syllabi, teaching evaluations, evidence of participation in teaching workshops or other professional development, or sample assignments and assessments.
• Scholarship statement: a 1-2-page scholarship statement describing research interests and goals that can be accomplished in a setting like Oxford College and any potential to involve Oxford undergraduate students.
• Graduate transcripts (unofficial acceptable).
