Your duties involve suggesting and investigating methods for mitigating environmental impact and developing best practices for project managers to follow. Educational qualifications include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental sciences or project management. These skills ensure regulatory compliance, project success, and positive environmental impact in a highly regulated and multidisciplinary field.

What are some of the key challenges Environmental Project Managers face when balancing project objectives with regulatory compliance?

Environmental Project Managers often navigate the challenge of aligning project goals with complex environmental regulations and stakeholder expectations. This requires staying current with evolving local, state, and federal laws, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and ensuring that project timelines and budgets accommodate permitting and compliance requirements. Effective communication and proactive planning are essential to anticipate potential roadblocks and integrate sustainable practices without compromising project deliverables. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams helps ensure all regulatory and environmental considerations are addressed throughout the project lifecycle.

Job description

Partner, Environmental Permitting in Capital Projects - Diversified Energy Clients

Lead the Energy Transition at the Executive Level

Are you ready to shape the future of energy? At ERM, we're offering more than a leadership role-we're offering a seat at the table where global energy strategies are defined. As a Partner, you'll join a purpose-driven firm with equity ownership, influence over strategic direction, and the opportunity to lead transformative projects that redefine how energy is developed, delivered, and decarbonized. This is your moment to lead with impact, backed by a global platform and a legacy of sustainability leadership.

Why This Role Matters

As a Partner in our Capital Project Development team, you'll be a strategic force in helping clients shape, permit, construct and operate sustainable and investable capital projects and infrastructure assets-from site selection and permitting to stakeholder engagement and operational excellence. Your leadership will directly influence how traditional and emerging energy projects are developed and delivered across the Gulf Coast and beyond.

What Your Impact Is

  • Spearhead ERM's growth in the energy sector, with a focus on capital project development for upstream/midstream oil and gas, power generation/transmission.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite and senior executives, delivering high-impact environmental and sustainability strategies.
  • Drive innovation and sustainability across the asset lifecycle-from planning and permitting to construction and operations.
  • Champion nontechnical project de-risking by leading comprehensive environmental and social strategies that anticipate constraints, resolve uncertainties, and enable sustainable and resilient capital project delivery.
  • Expand ERM's footprint by leveraging your industry relationships and insights to win new business and deepen existing partnerships.
  • Mentor and grow a high-performing team of consultants, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and purpose.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with a strong focus on the Energy or Power sectors
  • Proven track record of delivering multi-million-dollar programs and driving commercial growth.
  • Deep understanding of the regulatory landscape, permitting processes, and stakeholder dynamics in oil & gas, traditional power, or renewables, but with the desire and drive to work across the full spectrum of the diversified energy industry
  • Experience helping clients navigate NEPA, FERC, ESHIA regulatory frameworks; EA/EIS report development process; and, leading permitting efforts and client representation at agency meetings (e.g. USACE, BLM, USFWS, SHPO, DEQ).
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to translate complex challenges into actionable, enterprise-wide solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead client account development, sales, and delivery of ERM's full suite of consulting services.
  • Collaborate with regional and global leadership to shape go-to-market strategies for energy and low-carbon economy projects.
  • Identify and pursue high-potential opportunities, aligning ERM's capabilities with client needs.
  • Ensure project success through rigorous planning, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent ERM in technical communities and industry forums, contributing thought leadership and innovation.
  • Uphold ERM's commitment to health & safety, quality, and sustainability in every engagement.
