The Royal Caribbean Group's Royal Caribbean International brand has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Manager, Environmental Programs on the Private Destination Development Team reporting to the Director, Environmental Programs.
This position will work onsite in Miami, Florida and will require travel.
Position Summary:
Based in Miami, Florida, the Manager, Environmental Programs will be responsible for managing environmental initiatives for Royal Caribbean International's (RCI) Private Destination Development organization. In this position, you will focus on the environmental programs assigned for the development of private land-based destinations and be responsible for various assessment, strategies, execution, and monitoring of environmental activities through the development lifecycle.
You will need to have a deep understanding and proven track record in driving the environmental stewardship for complex land development projects from inception through construction and eventual operation. Experience required in delivering complex land transformations, and strong technical expertise including (but not limited to) environmental impact assessments (and associated studies), environmental management plans, best management practices, and environmental monitoring during construction and operation, etc.
This role will require close coordination with several other business areas within the Royal Caribbean Group (RCG), including, but not limited to private destination development, operations and ESG. In addition, this role will also collaborate with external environmental partners, construction contractors, and various government agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the environmental programs for Private Destination development, including internal (employees) and external (contractors) throughout the land development lifecycle (land selection through design/construction and into operation).
  • Support (create/edit/maintain) the environmental strategy, principle, and practices of our private destination development.
  • Ensure that RCG's environmental policies and the environmental principles and policies of private destination development are being effectively carried out for all projects (existing and new) in accordance with all relevant rules and regulations.
  • Ensure that RCG's environmental policies and the environmental principles and policies of private destination development are incorporated into the design of new projects and project expansions.
  • Ensure that RCI's environmental and hazardous materials policies applicable to shoreside operations are in compliance with all applicable national and international regulations and that there is an active feedback and corrective action process.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to the responsible disciplines throughout the lifecycle of a project including: site selection, design, construction, and operations.
  • Provide guidance and assistance for enhancing and improving projects by incorporating the environmental stewardship, vision of the corporation, and Product Development's environmental principles.
  • Manage the relationships with various environmental partners, including both internal (corporate ESG, island environmental officers, etc.) and external (e.g., consulting agencies, independent contractors, etc.). Directly manage the relationship with environmental monitoring consultants contracted for private destination environmental monitoring.
  • Manage environmental compliance audits, analyze trends and develop corrective action programs.
  • Continue to innovate and stay abreast of emerging environmental trends and technologies, including (but not limited to) waste, water and energy systems.
  • Develop environmental awareness programs for guests and employees.
  • Provide expertise in all matters involving future environmental protection issues that might affect Product Development's shoreside projects.
  • Give timely guidance to team members on all environmental issues, including pollution prevention using techniques such as minimization, reuse, recycling, treatment, and proper disposal.
  • Evaluate new projects, sites, and existing projects to ensure any environmental impact is minimized and that the environmental and hazardous materials policies are observed.
  • Monitor environmental programs for compliance with all policies, including reviewing the periodic environmental reports and self-assessments.
  • Provide training, resources, and guidance for the relevant internal environmental stewards and team members for new and existing projects and associated equipment, environmental strategies, operating requirements, and new technologies.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and accidents as directed.
  • Recommend action to prevent the occurrence of any environmental nonconformity's relating to the product, process, and quality system.
  • Identify, record and act on any environmental problems relating to the product, process, and quality system.
  • Strive to establish positive working relationships with environmental groups in order to promote RCG's environmental standards.
  • Keep all private destination environmental documents and programs fresh and up to date.
  • Produce and deliver quarterly environmental presentations.
  • Responsible for implementing and coordinating financial activities, operating and capital budgets, tracking actual expenses vs. forecast, and making recommendations to ensure budgetary compliance for the Department and select investments.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
  • 7+ years of environmental experience, preferably within tourism and/or international.
  • Bachelor's degree required in environmental science, biology, or another closely related field; MBA preferred.
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Previous experience in the environmental principles and practices in complex land-based development.
  • Solid understanding of environmental principles around waste, water, energy and construction.
  • Extensive knowledge of International and U.S. environmental rules and regulations.
  • Strong training and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to develop, plan and organize tactical plans utilizing project management principles.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with department heads, managers, coworkers and employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
  • Ability to effectively apply the RCCL environmental policies and practices and Product Development's environmental principles.
  • Ability to manage a staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing employees as they work. Ability to evaluate and hire high performing employees and scaling a team. Ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment.
  • Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within a variety software packages such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability and willingness to travel which includes the ability to travel internationally.
