Job description

JOB SUMMARY 

*This position is primarily located at the Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, GA.

Georgia Power is hiring an engineer or scientist with at least 5 years of experience for our Environmental Affairs Team based in Atlanta, Georgia. This role focuses on applying solid waste permitting and compliance strategies across our operations. We are looking for someone who is meticulous, curious, and eager to work in the coal combustion residuals (CCR) rule compliance space. You will work closely with our internal technical and regulatory teams as well as with third-party consultants, regulators, vendors, and industry experts. 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience interpreting and applying regulations, solid waste permitting, Georgia Solid Waste rules, and CCR rule knowledge and experience are a plus.
  • Maintain internal CCR guidance materials and train employees in best management practices. 
  • Complete reporting obligations to comply with the CCR rule. 
  • Obtaining CCR Solid Waste Permits, licenses, and certifications. 
  • Support CCR rule and CCR permit compliance at our facilities through site visits, file reviews, and review and use of Georgia Power's Environmental Management System. 
  • Collaborate with our team to find and apply cost-effective environmental solutions.

JOB & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years working in solid waste, environmental consulting, or another environmental compliance field.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Strong writing and speaking skills.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule, including up to 25% travel. 
  • Skilled in problem-solving, project management, and mentoring and developing others.
  • A degree in engineering or science (geology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience in Georgia with CCR Solid Waste Permitting or CCR Rule compliance is a plus.
