As a Senior Laboratory Test Engineer, you will play a critical leadership role within one of the industry's premier accredited testing laboratories, supporting the development of electrical utility transmission and distribution products used in demanding operating environments.

A Day In The Life
Lead Advanced Test Programs
  • Serve as the technical lead for high-voltage and pulsed-power testing activities, partnering with R&D, product engineering, quality, manufacturing, and customers to define requirements and execute comprehensive test programs.
  • Develop test strategies, detailed test plans, schedules, acceptance criteria, and technical reports for complex engineering validation and qualification activities.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership during challenging and high-visibility testing activities.
  • Review and approve technical test reports and laboratory data packages to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and compliance.

Serve as a Technical Subject Matter Expert
  • Provide expert-level guidance on high-voltage surge arrester testing, high-voltage insulator testing, dielectric testing, impulse testing, and related qualification activities.
  • Interpret industry standards and customer requirements and translate them into robust laboratory methods and repeatable test procedures.
  • Support internal engineering teams and customers by providing technical consultations and recommendations related to testing requirements and product performance.

Drive Laboratory Innovation and Capability Growth
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, instrumentation, automation solutions, and advanced measurement techniques to improve testing capability, efficiency, safety, and data quality.
  • Identify future laboratory needs and develop recommendations for capital investments, equipment modernization, automation initiatives, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Lead specification, validation, commissioning, and deployment of new test systems and laboratory equipment.
  • Share ownership of the technical roadmap for new and enhanced laboratory capabilities.

Support Product Development and Engineering Research
  • Partner closely with product development and simulation teams to correlate analysis models with physical test data.
  • Define validation strategies and experimental programs that improve engineering confidence and accelerate product development.
  • Apply engineering analysis, statistical methods, and data interpretation techniques to support design decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to technical investigations involving product performance, reliability, and failure analysis.

Lead Quality, Accreditation, and Continuous Improvement
  • Support and sustain laboratory accreditation activities in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
  • Maintain audit readiness and participate in internal audits, external audits, proficiency programs, and quality system improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, review, and maintain technical procedures, work instructions, and laboratory documentation.
  • Lead investigations involving test nonconformances, equipment issues, and quality concerns using formal root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.

Develop Engineering Talent
  • Mentor laboratory engineers and technicians by providing technical coaching, guidance, and professional development support.
  • Promote best practices in laboratory safety, test methodology development, data integrity, and technical reporting.
  • Help establish a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in one or more of the following: Engineering laboratories; Product development and testing; Electrical utility systems; Power systems engineering; Electrical equipment manufacturing; Research and development; Reliability engineering; Compliance or certification testing; Energy systems; or Industrial equipment development.
  • Experience developing and/or executing engineering test programs, validation plans, or qualification activities.
  • Experience using laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition systems, test equipment, measurement systems, or engineering analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and technical requirements such as IEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASTM, ISO, or similar engineering standards.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects from concept through execution.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage priorities and drive results with limited supervision.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications That Will Set You Apart
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with high-voltage, high-current, impulse, dielectric, environmental, mechanical, reliability, or endurance testing.
  • Experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory environment.
  • Experience supporting utility equipment, power systems, electrical research, or transmission and distribution products.
  • Experience with controls, automation systems, PLCs, data acquisition platforms, or automated test systems.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical and electrical designs and supporting laboratory equipment integration projects.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects or technical teams.
  • Familiarity with simulation correlation, modeling validation, or digital engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, Visual Basic, C/C++, or other engineering programming tools.
