How much do environmental engineering jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 13, 2026, the average yearly pay for environmental engineering in Quebec is $81,016.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $51,500.00 and $103,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges environmental engineers face when working on large-scale remediation projects?

Environmental engineers working on large-scale remediation projects often encounter challenges such as coordinating with multiple stakeholders, navigating complex regulatory requirements, and managing unforeseen site conditions. Effective communication and project management skills are essential, as these projects typically involve multidisciplinary teams, government agencies, and community groups. Additionally, environmental engineers must stay adaptable to address changes in site data or remediation technology, ensuring that solutions remain effective and compliant throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Environmental Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Environmental Engineer, you need a solid background in environmental science, engineering principles, and mathematics, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. Familiarity with modeling software (such as AutoCAD or GIS), environmental impact assessment tools, and relevant certifications like Professional Engineer (PE) licensure are commonly required. Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help you navigate complex regulations and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for developing sustainable solutions and ensuring compliance with environmental laws and standards.

What is environmental engineering?

Environmental engineering is a branch of engineering focused on developing solutions to environmental problems, such as pollution, waste management, and sustainable resource use. Environmental engineers design systems and processes to protect human health and the environment by improving water and air quality, managing waste, and remediating contaminated sites. They work with government agencies, private companies, and communities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to implement new technologies for environmental protection.

What is the difference between Environmental Engineering vs Civil Engineering?

AspectEnvironmental EngineeringCivil Engineering
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Environmental Engineering or related field; often PE licenseBachelor's in Civil Engineering; PE license common
Work EnvironmentEnvironmental labs, field sites, consulting firmsConstruction sites, infrastructure projects, urban planning
Industry UsageEnvironmental protection, waste management, water treatmentTransportation, structural design, urban development

Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering share foundational engineering principles and often require similar credentials. However, Environmental Engineering focuses on environmental protection, water and waste management, and sustainability, while Civil Engineering emphasizes infrastructure, construction, and urban development. Both roles are vital in construction and environmental sectors, but they serve different primary objectives and work environments.

Job description

Mission

Do you want to make a tangible contribution to improving operations, work on the front lines, and see the direct impact of your ideas in production? This role will allow you to participate in a variety of projects in industrial engineering, continuous improvement, and work method optimization, in a manufacturing environment where collaboration and innovation are top priorities.

In this position, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Take part in bringing new products to production by working directly with the production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams
  • Go out on the shop floor to observe operations, conduct time studies, analyze capacity, and collect the data needed to identify bottlenecks and the best opportunities for improvement
  • Design and implement more efficient workstations, production cells, and manufacturing flows, taking into account ergonomics, health and safety, quality, costs, and deadlines
  • Analyze and map production processes, particularly using tools such as VSM, to highlight value-added activities and reduce sources of waste
  • Contribute to concrete continuous improvement projects by applying the principles of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, problem-solving, and standardization of work methods
  • Clearly document methods, standards, analyses, and recommendations to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the solutions implemented
  • Monitor performance metrics related to productivity, capacity, costs, lead times, quality, and health and safety, then propose actions to improve results
  • Collaborate with operational teams to facilitate buy-in for changes, resolve problems sustainably, and improve overall performance

Come push the boundaries of engineering with us. Apply!

Profile

With the following skills and qualities, you’ll thrive in this role:

  • Your education: You hold a DEC in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, automated production engineering, or a related field. An AEC combined with hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment may also be considered.
  • Your experience: You have 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally in production, continuous improvement, industrial engineering, or methods. If you have less experience but a strong curiosity about the field, solid analytical skills, and a desire to learn, we may still be interested in your application.
  • Your knowledge: You are familiar with the principles of industrial engineering and continuous improvement, such as Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, VSM, time studies, capacity analysis, workstation design, flow optimization, and problem-solving. You are also comfortable with performance metrics and IT tools related to operations. Knowledge of English is a plus.
  • Your work style: You demonstrate attention to detail, independence, and initiative. You enjoy collaborating with teams, communicating clearly, organizing your work, and driving projects forward. Your curiosity, results-oriented mindset, and interest in continuous improvement and industrial innovation will be key assets in this role

Benefits designed to take you far!

  • A flexible work program tailored to your needs (flexible hours, compressed workweek, hybrid remote work, and more)
