Wood is currently seeking a Junior Cultural Heritage Technician to join our team in south central Ontario.

This role will be based in one of our south central, Ontario offices including Burlington, Cambridge, London, Oakville, or Richmond Hill, and possibly remotely.
Reporting to the Built Heritage and Cultural Landscape Team Lead in the Cultural Resource Management Group this individual will provide Project Management and Technical Expertise for heritage and archaeological studies conducted in Ontario for a wide array of federal, provincial and municipal governments and agencies as well as private sector clients. The position involves both office and field-based responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete cultural heritage and associated studies for ongoing environmental assessments and municipal heritage initiatives
- Research, prepare, and submit proposals for a variety of cultural heritage and/or archaeological projects
- Completion of Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports (CHARs), Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports (CHERs), Heritage Impact Assessments (HIAs), and Strategic Conservation Plans (SCPs), Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Studies and Plans, and Heritage Documentation Reports
- Assisting with all aspects of cultural heritage and archaeological requirements aligned with the Ontario Heritage Act and MHSTCI standards
- Archival research, historical map reviews, desktop data collection, analysis, and report writing
- Ability to travel and work on projects involving hotel stays, if required.
- Interacting with clients, government personnel and Indigenous Nations
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in one of the fields of Heritage Planning, Architectural History, Cultural Heritage Studies, Canadian History, Archaeology, Anthropology or related discipline
- 1-2 years' experience in Cultural Heritage with direct experience conducting historical research using primary and secondary sources
- Eligibility for Professional or Intern membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP)
- Must have a detailed working knowledge of and demonstrable experience in working with relevant provincial and federal legislation and heritage policy including but not limited to the Ontario Heritage Act, Planning Act, Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Provincial Heritage Properties, Ontario Heritage Bridge Guidelines, Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada, and federal/provincial/municipal EA Act and associated processes
- Capable of delivering quality work in a deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision
- Able to follow and implement both technical and safety training and instructions during fieldwork
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to obtain Provincial and Federal Security Clearance
- Must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy (MVR)
- Must have a valid Canadian driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree
- Knowledge of digital heritage documentation techniques
- Knowledge of GPS and surveyor equipment considered an asset
