Are you passionate about great journalism and helping a newsroom produce its best work every day?

The Colorado Springs Gazette is seeking an experienced News Editor to help lead our award-winning newsroom. This role is ideal for a strong editor who thrives in a fast-paced news environment, values accuracy and fairness, and enjoys mentoring journalists while shaping meaningful reporting. As News Editor, you'll oversee editing and production workflows, collaborate with reporters and editors across our publications, and play a key role in ensuring our coverage serves the communities that rely on us.

Important Schedule Information:

This position supports a newsroom that operates beyond traditional business hours. This schedule includes nights, weekends, and breaking news coverage. Candidates must be comfortable working our hybrid schedule which includes working in our newsroom in downtown Colorado Springs.

Salary Range: $68,000 - $78,000 annually

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee editing and overall workflow and production and coordinate with other Clarity editing operations as warranted.
  • Assign stored visuals and other content as needed and work with reporters and other journalists in producing credible and compelling journalism. Write and develop stories as needed.
  • Ensure that all Clarity journalism standards are followed, including accuracy, fairness and style.
  • Oversee planning and production of content and workflow.
  • Consistently meet deadlines.
  • Assist in production duties as assigned or warranted, such as updating content in inCopy and inDesign.
  • Serve as liaison for customers and other community feedback.
  • Supervise reporters, producers and other news employees as assigned.
  • Assist in budgeting and other personnel duties.

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree.
  • At least 10 years of daily news editing experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in editing and assigning.
  • Management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of libel law and other legal issues.
