To thrive as an Environmental Design Intern, you typically need a background in architecture, landscape architecture, or urban planning, with strong skills in spatial design and sustainability concepts. Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as knowledge of LEED standards, is often required. Creativity, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies are crucial for producing innovative, sustainable solutions and effectively contributing to multidisciplinary project teams.

What are Environmental Design Internships?

Environmental Design Internships are temporary, supervised work experiences for students or recent graduates interested in the field of environmental design. These internships provide hands-on training in areas such as sustainable architecture, urban planning, landscape design, and environmental impact assessment. Interns work alongside professionals to gain practical skills, contribute to real-world projects, and build their portfolios. Such opportunities are valuable for networking, career exploration, and enhancing employment prospects in the environmental design industry.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during an Environmental Design internship?

As an Environmental Design intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects ranging from site analysis and sustainability assessments to creating conceptual designs for public spaces or buildings.
