Job Description

Shape the future of environmental decision‑making through data that truly matters.

Join ERM as a Consultant, Environmental Data Quality Scientist, and take on a role where your expertise directly strengthens the scientific backbone behind major environmental programs. In this west‑coast–based position, you’ll work at the intersection of data, environmental chemistry, and large‑scale project delivery—supporting complex initiatives across North America and contributing to ERM’s global impact. This is a high‑visibility opportunity for someone who wants to elevate the quality, reliability, and accuracy of the data driving environmental solutions worldwide.

Why This Role Matters

Environmental data informs decisions that shape communities, protect ecosystems, and support responsible development. Your work ensures that the information guiding these decisions is precise, accurate, and defensible. By upholding rigorous data quality standards, you help our clients, regulators, and project teams operate with confidence.

What Your Impact Is
  • Ensure environmental data meets national, regional, and project‑specific standards through verification and validation processes.
  • Partner with ERM and client‑contracted laboratories to confirm that project data quality objectives are achieved.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, ERM colleagues, and subcontractors.
  • Manage multiple tasks within defined scope, budget, and schedule expectations while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
  • Collaborate with ERM’s Technical Communities to advance innovative data services and develop automated workflows that enhance our capabilities.
What You’ll Bring Required
  • BS/BA degree in chemistry or a related field; or 8+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in environmental data quality with strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of analytical methods relevant to environmental sampling.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Comfort working at a desk performing computer‑based tasks.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
Preferred
  • Experience performing environmental data validation and/or data quality reviews in accordance with USEPA National Functional Guidelines (NFGs) or regional guidance such as TRRP, NYSDEC DUSR, ADEC, etc.
  • Hands‑on experience with analytical laboratory instruments (e.g., GC/MS, GC, ICP, LC).
  • Familiarity with environmental field sample collection procedures.
  • Experience using EarthSoft’s EQuIS™ software.
  • Background in environmental chemistry, analytical laboratory work, and/or previous data validation experience.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform environmental data verification and validation following national, regional, and project‑specific guidelines.
  • Coordinate with laboratories to ensure data quality objectives are met.
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationships with clients, internal teams, and subcontractors.
  • Manage multiple concurrent tasks while meeting scope, budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Support the development of innovative data solutions and automated workflows with ERM’s Technical Communities.
