Job Description
We're looking for an Environmental Data Specialist. You will perform data entry and data management following established business processes to retrieve, verify, and maintain data generated during environmental site characterization, remediation, and monitoring activities. Work with database users, technical field teams, and contract laboratories to receive, assess, and process data; enhance data integrity, accessibility, and usability across one or more functional areas. The position is in the Program Services & Operations Division of the Environmental Restoration Department (ERD).
This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or moredays per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.
You will
  • Perform data entry and data management following established business processes to retrieve, verify and maintain data generated during environmental site characterization, remediation, and monitoring activities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements, reporting needs, and document them in clear specifications.
  • Work with technical staff to troubleshoot data issues, coordinate testing, and validate changes or enhancements to data systems and interfaces.
  • Develop and produce standard, recurring, and ad hoc reports, including data validation and explanation of trends or anomalies.
  • Assist in designing and implementing improvements to data collection, storage, and retrieval processes, including configuration of data management tools or applications.
  • Contribute to data-management documentation, including data dictionaries, standard operating procedures, records archives, and data-repositories, and support user training on data-entry standards, reporting tools, and data-management best practices.
  • Ensure chain-of-custody (COC) forms are complete, accurate, and timely and that the data from the analytical laboratories adhere to the contract.
  • Monitor data quality metrics and assist in developing controls, checks, and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data.
  • Assist in developing environmental sampling plans and contributing to environmental regulatory reports.
  • Perform Technical Release Representative (TRR) duties to release work to outside vendors, commit substantial financial resources, and process and pay subcontract analytical laboratory invoices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with data management systems related todata entry and verification.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and follow through; experience with techniques for maintaining data integrity, error cause and effect analysis, and error prevention.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience to anticipate, identify, and resolve complex problems effectively.
  • Experience analyzing electronic data deliverables and creating standard and ad hoc reports.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills necessary for effective interactions with all levels of personnel internal and external, regulatory agencies, and vendors, and experience working effectively independently and as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of and experience using computer programs, system software and computer equipment, such as Microsoft Excel, Oracle based applications, SQL, Apple/Mac, and Linux operating systems.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Knowledge of LLNL procurement policies and procedures and best business practices.
  • Experience working with TEIMS, knowledge of SPACT, and ERD's data repositories (i.e. Data Cave and Data Alley) and LLNL Records Management.
  • Familiarity with chemistry nomenclature to understand analytical laboratory test results.

Pay Range
$95,820 - $117,312 Annually

An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
