Job description

JOB TITLE: Safety Around Water Swim Instructor
REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or as assigned
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly
JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Safety Around Water (SAW) Swim Instructor will be responsible for teaching water safety and basic swimming skills to participants in our SAW program, in accordance with the design provided by the Richard Kane YMCA, with a particular focus on working with children. This role involves creating a safe and supportive environment, ensuring each participant's safety, and helping them build confidence in the water.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
  1. Work with all YMCA staff members to monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all members, participants, and employees by interpreting and enforcing all policies established by the YMCA.
  2. Be responsible for teaching water safety and basic swimming skills to participants in our SAW program.
  3. Obtain & maintain all required certifications, assuring that there is no lapse of certification.
  4. Carry out all swimming instruction following the curriculum and standards of Y-USA and the Richard Kane YMCA. Training will be provided.
  5. Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  6. Accurately document participant skill, achievement and attendance.
  7. Enforce swimming pool safety rules and properly report and treat injuries.
  8. Be alert, friendly and responsive to participants, teachers, volunteers and co-workers.
  9. Assist in the setup and cleanup of instructional areas before and after lessons
  10. Carry out other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required:
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Must be available 12:00pm - 2:15pm Monday through Friday
  • Must enjoy working with children and have the patience and enthusiasm to engage with them effectively
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification. Training will be provided to obtain this certification.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus

Salary Description
$11.00 per hour
