Department: Environmental Services
Reports To: Director of Environmental Services
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Status: Full-Time
Schedule: 6:00 AM–2:00 PM; work every other weekend
Pay range: $17 - $19
Position Summary

Wesley Manor Retirement Community is seeking a Full-Time Assistant Director of Housekeeping to support the daily operations of our Environmental Services Department. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for helping supervise housekeeping operations, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention, training and supporting staff, inspecting assigned areas, and ensuring resident rooms and common areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and welcoming condition. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of Environmental Services and serves as a department leader when the Director is unavailable.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director of Environmental Services with the daily supervision and coordination of housekeeping operations.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and day-to-day support to housekeeping and environmental services staff.
  • Help coordinate daily assignments and staffing coverage based on operational needs.
  • Conduct routine inspections of resident rooms, common areas, restrooms, dining areas, and other assigned spaces to ensure cleanliness standards are met.
  • Train and orient new housekeeping employees on proper cleaning procedures, equipment use, infection prevention, safety, and departmental expectations.
  • Monitor employee performance and promptly communicate performance, attendance, or operational concerns to the Director.
  • Assist with maintaining daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning schedules.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and provide staffing coverage when necessary.
  • Assist with laundry operations and ensure linens and resident clothing are properly processed and distributed.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies, equipment, and chemical inventory and notify the Director of purchasing or replacement needs.
  • Ensure cleaning chemicals and equipment are used, labeled, stored, and maintained safely.
  • Support infection prevention practices and ensure employees follow established sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Identify and report maintenance, safety, sanitation, and environmental concerns.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to resident, family, and departmental concerns or requests.
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and excellent customer service throughout the department.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy requirements.
  • Assist the Director with departmental projects, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory readiness.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support Wesley Manor operations.
  • Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous housekeeping, custodial, or environmental services experience required.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or lead housekeeping experience strongly preferred.
  • Healthcare, long-term care, senior living, hospitality, or similar experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation practices, infection prevention, and safe chemical handling preferred.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to provide clear direction and hold employees accountable to established standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify cleanliness, safety, and maintenance concerns.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with residents, families, employees, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Dependable, professional, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, push, pull, bend, stand, walk, and handle housekeeping equipment and supplies throughout the workday.
