Environment Project information

What is an environment project?

Environment Projects are initiatives or programs designed to protect, restore, or improve the natural environment. These projects can focus on issues such as conservation, pollution reduction, habitat restoration, renewable energy, and climate change mitigation. They often involve research, community engagement, and collaboration with government agencies or NGOs. The primary goal is to promote environmental sustainability and reduce the negative impact of human activities on the planet.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an environmental project manager?

To thrive as an Environmental Project Manager, you need a solid background in environmental science or engineering, project management experience, and often a relevant degree such as a BSc or MSc. Familiarity with project management software (like MS Project), environmental regulations, and certifications such as PMP or LEED are common requirements. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help drive team performance and stakeholder engagement. These skills ensure projects are completed efficiently, compliant with regulations, and have a positive environmental impact.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working on environment projects, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in environment projects often encounter challenges such as coordinating across diverse stakeholders, adapting to evolving regulations, and managing limited resources. Effective communication and stakeholder engagement are crucial to align goals and expectations. Staying updated on environmental laws and best practices, as well as leveraging project management tools, can help keep projects on track. Building strong multidisciplinary teams also supports problem-solving and innovation throughout the project lifecycle.

What is the difference between Environment Project vs Environment Coordinator?

AspectEnvironment ProjectEnvironment Coordinator
Primary RoleManage and oversee environmental projects, ensuring goals are metCoordinate daily activities, support environmental initiatives, and liaise with teams
Required CredentialsEnvironmental degree, project management skills, certifications like PMP or LEEDEnvironmental or related degree, strong organizational skills, certifications are a plus

Employer & Industry UsageConstruction, consulting, government agenciesEnvironmental firms, NGOs, government departments

While both roles focus on environmental efforts, the Environment Project leads specific projects from planning to completion, requiring project management expertise. The Environment Coordinator supports these initiatives by coordinating activities and ensuring smooth operations. Understanding these differences helps job seekers identify the right role for their skills and career goals.

Job description

Job Description We are seeking a Store Environment Project Manager 2 to support our Nordstrom Rack team, ensuring we meet our goal of producing content at scale in the most impactful, efficient and automated way possible. Our Marketing vision is to ignite growth through deepening customer connection, and our team is responsible for delivering content to drive customer engagement, grow our customer base, and execute strategies that will differentiate us from competitors.

As a Store Environment Project Manager 2 for Nordstrom Rack, you are a professional responsible for the strategic oversight and realization of our Store Environments in new and existing locations. This role sits at the intersection of operational excellence, creative output, and customer experience. You will leverage professional analytical skills to manage complex signage creation cycles, interpret production guidelines and limitations, and support departmental goals across cross-functional teams. You aren't just following a checklist; you are refining the process, resolving complex blockers, and coaching others to ensure best-in-class brand assets are delivered at scale across an expanding 300+ store fleet. You'll actively look for opportunities to apply automation tools to streamline production workflows, reporting, and vendor/store communications — replacing manual, repeatable tasks with smarter, scalable processes.

What You’ll Do
  • Program ownership and strategy: Manage the seasonal/promotional/evergreen production and deployment calendar, identifying opportunities to automate calendar tracking, milestone alerts, and status updates.
  • Production and quality: Create and maintain production specs. Evaluate vendor capabilities and negotiate pricing/placement.
  • Store segmentation, kitting, and pack-outs: Maintain store profiles to drive store-specific allocations. Build sign dictionaries, bills of materials, and rules-based pack logic, leveraging automation and rules engines to scale allocation logic across an expanding store fleet with minimal manual rework.
  • Logistics and deployment: Plan shipping windows and modes to meet in-store dates. Manage 3PL pick/pack/kitting/tracking; resolve exceptions and communicate impacts/mitigations, using automated tracking and exception-alerting tools where available to catch issues earlier and reduce manual status chasing.
  • New stores and exterior graphics: Produce and deliver standard interior/exterior graphics packages while coordinating with Store Design, Construction/GCs, landlords, and Store Operations.
  • Data, reporting, and continuous improvement: Report program KPIs and dashboards (on-time delivery, defect/reprint rate, issue trackers, budget variance, store satisfaction). Analyze performance to reduce waste, improve cycle time, and analyze cost per store. Champion the use of automation tools to create dashboards to surface trends and reduce manual reporting effort.
  • Budget, risk, and stakeholder management: Build and manage forecasts; track actuals and prevent scope creep; coordinate POs/invoices. Identify risks and implement mitigations, incorporating automated variance flags and AI‑assisted forecasting to spot risk earlier.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5–8+ years managing large‑scale, multi‑location retail print/graphics programs from creative handoff through in‑store deployment.
  • Deep knowledge of large‑format print production; substrates (e.g., styrene, PVC, acrylic, PETG, fabrics); color management; SEG fabrication/installation; experience with beauty fixture graphics and window/interior/exterior programs.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking; advanced Excel/Smartsheet (modeling, pivots); comfort with dashboards and Business Intelligence.
  • Interest in and experience applying AI/automation tools (e.g., workflow automation, generative AI for documentation or reporting, AI‑assisted analytics) to drive efficiency at scale.
  • Clear communicator and skilled stakeholder manager; proven ability to run multiple concurrent timelines at scale and deliver on time, in full.
  • Top‑tier problem solving and root cause analysis; calm under pressure and effective at exception management with vendors and 3PLs.
  • Tool stack proficiency: Workfront (intake, workflow, approvals), AEM (assets/specs/store profiles), Smartsheet, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) for markup, store communications, and proof review. Comfort adopting new AI‑enabled features within these platforms (e.g., Smartsheet automation, AI‑assisted asset tagging/search in AEM) as they become available.
  • Familiarity with 3PL operations, TMS/WMS, shipping methods, and retail receiving constraints; understanding of municipal and safety compliance for in‑store graphics.
  • Experience partnering with Strategic Sourcing on RFPs and vendor scorecards; familiarity with permitting and landlord approvals for exterior signage/graphics.
