Job description

SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to join the Environmental Planning & Management (EPM) Division (Competition #26-03-0744) based in Calgary, or Lloydminster, Alberta. Reporting to the EPM Manager, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team of technical specialists, delivering project management and strategic guidance across all phases of the project lifecycle.

This is a full-time leadership role that offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-office and remote field work.


WHAT TO EXPECT:

As a safety focused leader, you will oversee environmental projects while providing technical leadership, mentorship, and strategic direction to your team.


JOB DUTIES:

Primary duties include leading/managing projects for the oil and gas, power and utilities, land development, and renewable energy sectors. In doing so, you will:

  • Lead and manage environmental projects across oil and gas, power and utilities, land development, and renewable energy sectors
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute projects including permitting, budgeting, scheduling, and regulatory compliance
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and strong relationship management
  • Provide technical oversight, including review and professional sign-off on environmental assessments and permitting documents
  • Support senior-level reporting and technical writing
  • Lead and mentor a team of biologists, technicians, and support staff, including performance management and development
  • Drive business development by identifying opportunities, supporting proposals, and fostering strategic partnerships
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring programs, biophysical assessments, and data collection initiatives
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and quality control standards across all projects
  • Collaborate across service lines to deliver integrated environmental solutions


You will be supported by the entire Summit organization which consists of a dynamic team of technical administrators, business development professionals, in-house IT, GIS/drafting, and many other highly experienced, skilled and educated professionals including engineers, agrologists, biologists, and chemists.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting or a related field,
  • Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline,
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills,
  • Proven ability to manage projects, teams, and client relationships,
  • Experience with environmental permitting processes (including Temporary Field Authorizations/RTFs),
  • Familiarity with construction practices,
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.



ASSETS:

  • Experience managing project budgets and schedules,
  • Professional designation (e.g., Registered Professional Biologist or Agrologist), or eligibility,
  • Experience with Alberta Public Lands Act permitting,
  • QAES or Authenticating Wetland Professional designation,
  • Knowledge of Alberta Wetland Policy and professional sign-off requirements,
  • Experience with large-scale linear projects and environmental monitoring/inspection programs.
