Company: Road & Rail Services
Starting Pay: $20.00 per hour
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Schedule: Wednesday-Sunday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Begin a Career in Automotive Quality
Road & Rail Services is looking for an observant and reliable Vehicle Damage Inspector to join our team in Ellwood, IL. This entry-level position plays an important role in the vehicle-processing operation by identifying transportation-related damage and ensuring inspection results are reported correctly.
You do not need previous automotive inspection experience to qualify. We will train you on vehicle-inspection techniques, damage classifications, customer requirements, and the electronic systems used to submit reports.
This is not an automotive repair or mechanic position. Your work will focus on carefully examining vehicles, confirming reported damage, entering accurate information, and communicating concerns to the appropriate team members.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
Conduct detailed exterior inspections of vehicles for transportation-related damage
Review and confirm damage previously identified on vehicles
Complete inspections both on the ground and while vehicles are positioned on railcars
Accurately record findings according to established customer procedures
Submit vehicle-damage documentation through manufacturer reporting websites
Enter applicable inspection information into the BNSF reporting system
Notify the appropriate personnel when damage or documentation issues are identified
Assist with monitoring access to designated areas while vehicle repairs are pending
Follow company, customer, and industry safety requirements
Complete other related operational assignments as needed
Accurate documentation is a key part of this position. The information you enter helps customers make informed decisions and maintain reliable vehicle-processing records.
Required Qualifications
Successful candidates must have:
A valid driver's license
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
Strong attention to detail and data-entry accuracy
The ability to understand and follow written procedures
Reliable attendance and punctuality
Availability to work Wednesday through Sunday
The ability to work safely without constant supervision
A willingness to collaborate with coworkers when needed
Comfort working around vehicles, railcars, and active equipment
  • The ability to safely access railcars and perform outdoor inspections

Experience in quality control, transportation, automotive operations, logistics, or data entry is beneficial but not required.
Outdoor Working Conditions
Most duties are performed outside at an active rail and vehicle-processing facility. Team members must be prepared for changing conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and seasonal weather.
This position also requires working safely around moving vehicles and rail equipment. All required personal protective equipment must be worn according to site procedures.
Compensation and Employee Benefits
Road & Rail Services offers $20.00 per hour and a competitive benefits package that includes:
Medical and dental coverage
401(k) retirement plan with company matching
Paid vacation and company holidays
Annual steel-toe footwear allowance
Company-provided personal protective equipment
Job-specific training
Opportunities for internal career advancement
