Job description

Key Responsibilities
1. Laundry Operations:
• Operate and maintain laundry equipment, including washers, dryers, and ironing machines.
• Follow established procedures for sorting, washing, drying, and folding linens.
2. Quality Control:
• Ensure the quality and cleanliness of all laundered items, including residents' clothing, bedding, and facility linens.
• Inspect items for stains, damage, or wear and take appropriate action.
3. Inventory Management:
• Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of inventory for linens, towels, and residents' personal clothing.
• Keep accurate records of inventory levels and usage.
4. Stain Removal:
• Apply stain removal techniques to address stains on clothing and linens.
• Use appropriate cleaning agents and follow safety guidelines.
5. Safety and Infection Control:
• Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures during all laundry operations.
• Handle soiled linens and clothing with proper protective equipment.
6. Equipment Maintenance:
• Perform routine maintenance on laundry equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor.
7. Laundry Cycles:
• Coordinate laundry cycles to meet the facility's needs for clean linens and residents' clothing.                                                                                                          • Follow schedules and adjust as needed based on demand.

8. Collaboration:
• Collaborate with housekeeping and other facility staff to ensure seamless operations and address any issues related to laundry services.
• Communicate with the nursing staff regarding residents' laundry preferences.
9. Documentation:
• Keep accurate records of daily laundry activities, including the number
of loads processed, inventory levels, and any issues encountered.
• Complete laundry reports as required.
10. Customer Service:
• Provide responsive and respectful service to residents and their families regarding laundry services.
• Address any concerns or special requests related to laundry.

Preferred Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in laundry operations, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality setting.
• Familiarity with laundry equipment and procedures.
• Attention to detail in sorting and folding items.
• Ability to follow safety and infection control guidelines.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Physical ability to lift and move laundry items.


Working Conditions
• Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses’ stations, resident rooms, etc.).
• Moves intermittently during working hours.
• Is subject to frequent interruptions.
• Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
• Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
• Communicate with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors. 
• Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
• Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.
• Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
• Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
• Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS, COVID-19, and Hepatitis B viruses.
• May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
• Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc.,
to adequately plan for the residents’ needs.


Education
Must possess and maintain any and all necessary active and unencumbered certifications, degrees, or licenses in the necessary state, to the extent the position
requires such certifications, degrees, or licenses.

• Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
• Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.


Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understandably write the English language.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. 
  • Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination if the position requires. 
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet. 
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.
