Job description

Meyer Utility Structures is looking for a Painter/Blaster for our plant in Clinton, Il. The Painter/Blaster will prepare metal surfaces using abrasive blasting (sandblasting) to remove rust, scale, and contaminants, followed by applying protective coatings and industrial paint via spray guns or rollers. The Painter/Blaster will ensure surfaces meet specifications, maintain equipment, and adhere to strict safety regulations.
Meyer Utility Structures is an industry leader in the engineering design and fabrication of concrete and tubular steel structures for transmission, distribution, and substation applications. With over sixty years of innovative engineering and manufacturing expertise, Meyer has helped to author and validate many of today's transmission industry standards and specifications.
What You'll Do:
  • Ensure surfaces meet required blast profiles
  • Verify paint reactor is performing as specified
  • Operate airless spray equipment to apply coatings
  • Set up, operate and maintain machinery used to apply thin metallic coatings
  • Test millage of coatings (wet and dry)
  • Oil and clean pumps
  • Clean paint lines and paint guns and perform other cleaning/preventative maintenance to ensure that painting apparatus remain in working order
  • Consistently achieve proper dry film thickness and defect-free paint jobs with no pinholes, sags, runs or orange peel
  • Other job duties as assigned

What You'll Need:
  • Experience performing splicing and feathering processes to meet quality standards
  • Successful experience applying all kinds of coatings and applies prime and finish coats on industrial products
  • Experience reading and successfully interpreting general notes on drawings
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and paint equipment including sizing tips, pump pressures, re-coat times and effects of weather on any applicable paint system
  • The ability to maintain reliable and predictable good attendance
  • A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal
