The Silberstein Lab is seeking a motivated part-time Lab Aide to support ongoing exciting research on Leukemia prevention. This position is ideal for an individual interested in an entry-level introduction to a research lab environment, specifically learning murine colony maintenance, including PCR genotyping and related research projects. We are looking for students with an excellent academic record seeking to gain original research experience in support of their academic goals. Candidates must be organized and reliable with a strong attention to detail and a passion for research. This position is estimated to be approximately 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate a student schedule.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibility will be mouse genotyping and breeding to support ongoing research projects.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Re-stocking lab supplies.
  • Processing biohazard waste.
  • Making reagents.
  • May assist with experiments and set-up.
  • Perform some clerical duties as required, e.g freezer/reagent inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with an interest in the sciences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current enrollment in college at the sophomore or higher level (or equivalent experience), with prior introductory biology and chemistry.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, capable of maintaining thorough records, and be able to work efficiently under supervision.
  • Motivation, adaptability, and ability to be a team player are essential.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear and concise communication.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $21.30 to $30.13 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
