Job description


This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Pay for the Gas System Tech position in in the range of $69,400 to $86,750, and the Senior Gas System Tech is in the range of $80,500 to $100,625 and is dependent upon skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.   This pay range is composed of a current base pay range of $55,520 to $69,400 for the Gas System Tech position and $64,400 to $80,500 for the Senior Gas System Tech position with 25% supplemental pay, which is administered in accordance with NMGC's Supplemental Pay Policy.    

The successful candidate must live within 30 minutes of the Carlsbad Service Center.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs various measurement functions, including diaphragm, rotary, turbine, ultra-sonic, and orifice accuracy tests, changing charts, adjusting pressures, ensures and maintains proper pressure control, changing orifice plates, running dew point tests, witnessing meter tests, and completing necessary reports. Performs SCADA troubleshooting, repairs, and calibration.
  • Troubleshoots and supports large customers with equipment operations.
  • Designs large meter and regulator station with oversight from Engineering. Performs blow down, purging, and monitoring of transmission system.
  • Repairs and maintains remote data transfer units, odorization equipment, meters, regulators, relief valves, analyzers, and chromatographs.
  • Prepares, submits, and maintains required records for all leak and cathodic protection surveys, tests, and other related documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Depending on location, may perform initial inspection and analysis of compressor station.

Successful Candidate Must Have:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Gas Systems Tech: 2 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position. Related experience consists of gas operations, gas compression operations, processing plant operations, or electrical and pneumatic instrumentation experience.
  • Sr. Gas Systems Tech: 4 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position. Related experience consists of gas operations, gas compression operations, processing plant operations, or electrical and pneumatic instrumentation experience.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record 
  • Preferred: Cathodic Protection (CP) experience, Leak Survey experience, and/or previous electrical experience.

Working Conditions
Subject to 75% outdoor work, overtime, weekends, on-call, frequent travel and working within confined spaces. Works with high pressure lines, and uses self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), as needed. Regular standing, walking, bending, climbing, driving, sitting, lifting 20 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.Â
