Job description

Description
Knox College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Lecturer / Instructor of Japanese Language, non tenure track, beginning September 2022. Initial appointment is for two academic years and has a possibility of renewal. The standard teaching load is two courses per ten-week trimester.
We invite applications from Japanese language specialists with a commitment to undergraduate education. The successful candidate will have a strong interest and experience in teaching language in a proficiency-oriented and inclusive program. Teaching responsibilities will be at the beginning and intermediate levels in Japanese. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with students with varied academic interests.
Knox is a diverse college with over 35% of the student body identifying as American students of color and an additional 15% international students. Asian Studies faculty work hard to enroll a diverse group of students at all levels of instruction and successful candidates should be prepared to work to make Japanese appealing and welcoming to all of Knox's students. Experience working with diverse populations of students and a commitment to teach successfully in a multicultural environment are expected.
Pay is commensurate with entry-level faculty positions. Knox College provides a strong benefit package including health, dental, vision and life insurance, and access to a retirement plan; a tuition remission benefit is available after a two-year waiting period. Additional information can be found on our Human Resources webpage at https://www.knox.edu/offices/human-resources/employee-benefits-and-forms.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree expected in Japanese language, language pedagogy, linguistics, or related humanities field for appointment as lecturer. ABD candidates will be considered for appointment as instructor.
  • Experience with Japanese language instruction.
  • Native or near-native fluency in English and Japanese.

Application Instructions
Candidates should submit:
  • a cover letter addressing the candidate's preparation for inclusive teaching at a diverse liberal arts college;
  • a curriculum vitae;
  • an unofficial graduate transcript;
  • three confidential letters of recommendation.

Review of applications will begin on May 1, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
Questions may be addressed to Professor Weihong Du at japanesesearch@knox.edu.
