Job description

SUMMARY:
The Credit Analyst I position serves as an entry-level role focused on reviewing credit request information, conducting evaluations and analyses of that data, and preparing detailed credit memoranda for commercial loan applications.
JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Underwrite and prepare credit memorandum packages, under guidance for loans <$3MM.
  • Accurately and promptly complete cash flow spread requests for Loan Officers.
  • Serve as back-up for appraisal reviews and in-house evaluations.
  • Manage the integrity of risk management functions by ensuring acceptable credit standards are maintained and loans conform to established Bank policy, procedures, and regulatory requirement
  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of potential and existing clients by analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant financial data.
  • Accompany the Loan Officers on customer calls and site visits of potential and existing customers as requested/needed.
  • Regularly track and test borrowers' compliance with loan agreements by analyzing key financial metrics, ensuring adherence to financial covenants, and flagging any potential breaches for timely resolution.
  • Review and assess borrowers' financial performance, creditworthiness, and compliance with loan terms during the annual review process, identifying risks and making recommendations for any necessary adjustments or actions.
  • Perform cash flows, financial analysis, collateral valuations/analysis, global cash flows, etc. for commercial borrowers and guarantors.
  • Research industry information; history of the borrower; or any information or articles on the internet that would pertain to the borrower positively or negatively.
  • Conduct independent and objective review of loan underwriting practices, approvals, monitoring activities, and credit administration procedures.
  • Evaluate appropriateness of loan structures and completes analysis of financial information to identify current or potential problems in credit quality and potential portfolio risk.
  • Review borrower relationships to develop an assessment of loan repayment ability validating that the risk rating and perception of risk is accurate.
  • Review loan documents for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to credit memorandum covenants and conditions.
  • Maintain excellent customer service to internal customers and external customers.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in reviewing tax returns, financial statements, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to conduct independent and objective reviews of loan and credit practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address obstacles in the underwriting process.
  • Demonstrate a strong capacity for effective collaboration with others.
  • Flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and special projects as assigned, adapting to changing priorities, deadlines, and regulatory environments.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • 3 Months of experience as a Credit Analyst or related Internship.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Credit and Risk Analyst (CCRA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Risk Analyst (CRA).
