Position Summary:
The Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting advanced technology solutions directly within business and operational environments across Gowan’s global organization. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable, secure, and reliable technical solutions.

The FDE participates in the full solution lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, deployment, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization. The position requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in dynamic, real-world environments.

Reports to: IT Manager – Software Engineering
Job Status: Full-Time - Salaried

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain software and system solutions that meet business and operational needs.
  • Work directly with business users and functional teams to gather requirements and understand workflows.
  • Customize and integrate solutions with existing enterprise systems and platforms.
  • Participate in the full development lifecycle including design, coding, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues across applications, systems, and integrations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams, vendors, and partners to deliver effective solutions.
  • Ensure solutions adhere to security, compliance, and regulatory standards.
  • Document system designs, configurations, deployment procedures, and support processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other IT staff as needed.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements or innovations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company data and follow all IT policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Experience deploying and supporting solutions in production or customer-facing environments.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, life sciences, chemicals, agriculture, or other regulated industries is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and/or AI assisted development software like Claude Code
  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, APIs, system integrations, and enterprise applications.
  • Working knowledge of databases, data pipelines, and analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, version control systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing business needs and technologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual preferred: English, Spanish.
  • Occasional travel required.
