Job description

Zions Bancorporation is one of the nation's premier financial services companies operating as a collection of great banks under local brands and management teams in high-growth western markets. Zions is regularly recognized by American Banker magazine as having a top banking team in its list of "The Most Powerful Women in Banking." Our customers consistently vote us as the best bank in our local markets. We value our employees, and we are committed to search out, recognize and create fulfilling opportunities for outstanding people within our organization, rewarding them for their contributions to our success. We recognize that banking is a "local" business, and that to be successful, we must have very strong ties to the communities we serve and strong relationships with our customers.
With benefits starting on day one, 12 bank holidays, profit sharing and company-matched 401(k) contributions, Zions is dedicated to being an employer of choice in our communities. At Zions, the possibilities are endless. You bring the talent; we bring the opportunity.
Zions is seeking a Compliance Officer to join the Compliance Assurance Program (CAP) team within Compliance Risk Management (CRM). Compliance risk is inherent in all bank products, services and activities, and the effective management of compliance risks is a fundamental element of regulatory risk management. The CAP department within CRM is a second line of defense function that performs independent and objective reviews of business processes, functions, and departments to determine the effectiveness of internal controls in managing compliance risks.
In this entry-level role, the Compliance Officer will assist in the planning and execution of compliance testing engagements under the guidance of the Compliance Manager. You will be responsible for gathering and analyzing documentation, executing control testing scripts, assisting in the evaluation of control effectiveness, and helping to identify areas for continuous improvement within our compliance program. Your attention to detail, analytical skills, and dedication to learning will be vital in supporting our institution's reputation for integrity and regulatory excellence.
The entry level Compliance Officer will:
  • Assist in planning and scoping small, noncomplex compliance reviews of business processes in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Conduct fieldwork activities such as testing controls, gathering documentation, and performing walkthroughs to evaluate compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze transactional data and business activities to identify compliance risks, issues, and potential areas for improvement.
  • Perform root cause analysis to determine the underlying factors contributing to compliance deficiencies or process gaps.
  • Draft clear and concise audit reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and required corrective actions.
  • Monitor and track remediation efforts by business units to ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Communicate audit objectives, progress, and results with various stakeholders including business process owners, management, and compliance teams.
  • Maintain accurate and organized audit workpapers and documentation to support findings and conclusions.
  • Stay informed of relevant compliance regulations, company policies, and best practices to support audit work.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development activities as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Requires an associate's degree in business, finance, accounting or a related field or equivalent working experience in banking/financial services regulatory compliance, risk management, audit, or other directly related banking operations experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may meet requirements.
  • 2+ years in banking/financial services regulatory compliance, auditing or other directly related experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of banking/financial regulatory compliance, compliance testing, auditing, financial principles, and regulatory issues.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state compliance laws and regulations.
  • Proficient customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective research, project management, organizational, analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

Location:
  • This position is located at the Zions Technology Center in Midvale, UT
