This role supports projects from early conceptual design through issued-for-construction (IFC) drawings, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, utility standards, and project requirements. The ideal candidate has strong power systems fundamentals, experience with medium- and high-voltage equipment, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, construction, and project management teams.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Substation & Power Systems Design
  • Develop electrical designs for medium- and high-voltage substations supporting renewable energy projects.
  • Prepare one-lines, three-lines, wiring diagrams, grounding plans, protection and control schematics, and equipment layouts.
  • Design and specify substation equipment including transformers, breakers, relays, switches, and protection systems.
  • Perform basic power system studies as required (load flow, short circuit, grounding, etc.).

Engineering Tools & Documentation

  • Produce and review design drawings using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Prepare technical specifications, design calculations, and engineering documentation.
  • Support permitting, utility interconnection, and regulatory submittals.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with civil, structural, protection & controls, and solar engineering teams.
  • Support construction teams by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and resolving field issues.
  • Interface with utilities, AHJs, and third-party engineers to ensure alignment with interconnection and design standards.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, NESC, IEEE standards, utility requirements, and project-specific criteria.
  • Incorporate safety, constructability, and long-term reliability into all designs.
  • Support commissioning and energization activities as needed.

The Key Job Responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list – additional tasks may be assigned to the team member and the scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands.
