Airtronics Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Industrial Engineer to support the mechanical design of industrial chemical process equipment for battery recycling and critical materials recovery. This role will work directly with chemical engineers, chemists, technicians, and controls personnel to design, build, modify, and troubleshoot bench-scale and scale-up process systems.
The ideal candidate will have a BS-level mechanical or industrial engineering background, strong SolidWorks capability, and practical experience designing equipment, fixtures, layouts, and mechanical systems used in process engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Process Design: Design mechanical systems and equipment to support chemical and electrochemical process development.
  • Engineering Support: Work with chemical engineers to translate process requirements into mechanical designs for reactors, separators, tanks, pumps, transfer lines, filtration systems, solids handling, and sample-collection points.
  • Scale-Up Support: Assist in the design and modification of equipment for bench-scale, semicontinuous, and future scale-up process operation.
  • CAD and Drawings: Develop SolidWorks models, assemblies, drawings, and bills of materials for process equipment, fixtures, and supporting hardware.
  • Mechanical Analysis: Use appropriate mechanical analysis tools to assess structural, thermal, fluid-handling, or manufacturability considerations.
  • Fabrication Coordination: Work with internal and external fabrication resources to support prototype construction, installation, troubleshooting, and design revisions.
  • System Integration: Support integration of balance-of-plant components including pumps, balance tanks, tubing or piping, containment, access panels, supports, and equipment layouts.
  • Documentation: Maintain design records, drawing packages, revision histories, test notes, and engineering documentation.
Qualifications

  • Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with SolidWorks and mechanical drawing development.
  • Experience: Experience with mechanical design, process equipment, industrial systems, or manufacturing support.
  • Practical Design Ability: Ability to design parts and assemblies that can be fabricated, assembled, maintained, and modified in a working engineering environment.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work closely with chemical engineers, chemists, technicians, machinists, and controls personnel.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with chemical process equipment, battery recycling, critical materials processing, or laboratory/pilot-scale systems.
  • Experience with pumps, tanks, tubing, piping, filtration, solids handling, or industrial process layouts.
  • Experience in a hands-on manufacturing, prototype, machine shop, or R&D environment.
  • Familiarity with safety considerations for chemical processing equipment.
Why Join Us

  • Opportunity to design real equipment for a growing critical-materials recovery program.
  • Hands-on role connecting mechanical engineering, process engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Opportunity to work in a practical engineering environment with direct impact on system buildout and scale-up.
