Job description

Overview

The Engineering Department’s mission is to create Engineered Systems project drawings in a complete, accurate and timely manner while satisfying the customer’s requirements with all applicable value‑added engineering. A successful engineering project requires effective communication of the customer’s requirements to Fry Reglet’s Production Team providing Fry Reglet the best opportunity to complete a successful project. The CAD Designer is one of the primary resources to Fry Reglet’s Project Management Team to assist with providing the customer reliable and value‑added engineering drawings fully illustrating the project requirements. The purpose of the CAD Designer is to provide effective communication of the project requirements through the use of drawings, bills of materials, renderings, etc. to ensure the PM Team has the necessary information to complete a successful project. A CAD Designer is an individual with a working knowledge of manufacturing processes and all products within Fry Reglet’s Engineered Systems envelope.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Creates a complete set of working drawings for customer submittals or fabrication using AutoCAD or Inventor.
  • Drafts, edits, and finalizes design plans and details using appropriate and efficient methods.
  • Supports the development of and champions consistent use of drawing standards, including layer standards, file size management, and naming conventions.
  • Provides an additional level of interaction and information sharing between team members.
  • Interacts with other project stakeholders to achieve positive results.
  • Assures that anticipated problems in manufacturing, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the drawing produced.
  • Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent.
  • Reviews completed construction drawings for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with Drafting Standards, Regulatory Bodies, and Construction documents.
  • Regularly reviews and checks sketches and drawings for errors before being sent to architects, subcontractors, project managers, etc.
  • Revises drawings and layouts to accommodate changes and enhancements.
  • Copies detailed plans and drawings and performs non‑routine complex drafting assignments.
Experience and Skills
  • Must be a self‑starter, well organized, and has strict attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to perform scaling and layer management.
Qualifications
  • Associates Degree in Drafting/Design, Bachelor’s degree a plus.
  • Two to three years’ experience in sheet metal and/or extruded framing a plus.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Inventor (2018 or higher), and 3D Design.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, mechanical, and/or structural drawings and details.
Physical Requirements
  • 100% of time spent in busy office/shop environment.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels.
  • Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift to 50 lbs.
  • At times dusty due to the manufacturing aspect.
