Description
Dunbarton Corporation is seeking a Tool & Die Technician to join our team who is responsible for building, repairing, and troubleshooting production dies and tooling for Dunbarton products by interpreting specifications, using CAD design and blueprint tools, and setting up and operating machine tools. They ensure machines are properly adjusted and maintained and inspect finished parts to confirm quality and readiness for the next production stage.
Essential Job Functions
  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to design, build, and modify tooling, dies, and fixtures
  • Select appropriate materials, metals, and alloys based on strength, heat tolerance, and application requirements
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC and conventional machining equipment to manufacture tooling to precise tolerances
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of tooling and components using precision measuring instruments
  • Assemble, fit, adjust, and troubleshoot dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to ensure proper function and quality
  • Diagnose tooling, die, and machine issues; implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and defects
  • Use CAD software to create tooling designs and translate them into production-ready blueprints and documentation
  • Inspect finished tooling and components for defects, surface finish, contour accuracy, and conformance to specifications
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on tooling and related equipment; support TPM initiatives
  • Ensure tooling and machining activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including LOTO and 6S
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (LEAN, Kaizen, Six Sigma) by identifying and implementing efficiency projects
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to support process improvements and new product launches
  • Train and mentor technicians and operators on tooling use, setup, maintenance, and best practices
  • Utilize ERP systems to manage tooling data, inventory, work orders, and documentation accurately
  • Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements, including nights and weekends
  • Perform other job-related duties consistent with the scope and level of the position

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of tool and die design, construction, repair, and modification from metal fabrication processes
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, specifications, and geometric tolerancing
  • Knowledge of CNC and conventional machining processes, tooling, and metalworking equipment
  • Knowledge of metals and alloys, including material properties, hardness, and heat tolerances
  • Skill in interpreting and applying engineering drawings and specifications to tooling and die fabrication
  • Skill in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC and conventional machine tools
  • Skill in using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances
  • Skill in assembling, fitting, adjusting, and repairing dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tooling
  • Skill in using CAD software to create tooling designs and production-ready documentation
  • Ability to analyze specifications and visualize tooling designs and finished components
  • Ability to ensure tooling and products meet quality, safety, and production requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, maintenance, and production teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns

Requirements
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience in tool and die manufacturing and maintenance
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience operating machinery in a manufacturing environment

Moves, lifts, carries, and places objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Works in varying temperature conditions. Occasionally will work in high, precarious places and occasionally is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
