Location: Birmingham, AL

Client- Alabama Power

Contract- 1 Year
Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Drafter 2 to support survey and engineering operations for transmission line projects. This role involves producing CAD drawings, interpreting property and survey data, and preparing right-of-way documentation. The successful candidate will collaborate with field survey crews, office staff, and external agencies to ensure accurate and timely drafting deliverables.
Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting & Design
    • Perform CAD drafting of transmission line centerline right-of-way, boundary, topographic, and land tie surveys.
    • Create accurate drawings in compliance with company standards and project requirements.
    • Prepare and edit "metes and bounds" or "centerline" descriptions.
  • Survey Support
    • Support field survey crews and office personnel with drafting deliverables.
    • Research existing survey and real estate records to validate design data.
    • Prepare and transmit completed survey/drafting packages for assigned projects.
  • Agency & Stakeholder Coordination
    • Contact local and state agencies to obtain right-of-way information.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment between design, survey, and project requirements.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Associate's degree in Drafting & Design or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience:
    • 2-5 years of drafting experience, preferably in survey, utility, or transmission projects.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD required).
    • Ability to interpret and write metes and bounds / centerline descriptions.
    • Familiarity with survey methods, boundary records, and land tie documentation.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
