Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet departmental needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain quality diagnostic studies. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing the equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Works with students during their clinical rotation. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and appropriate markers utilized. Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and ensures proper maintenance of emergency equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities as needed. Observes patient conditions and properly evaluates situations for necessary physician intervention. Verifies two unique patient identifiers prior to performing procedures. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Uses critical thinking skills and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate. Demonstrates understanding of pre-and post-procedural care and prepares patients for procedures. Maintains competency with venipuncture when applicable. Demonstrates ability to adjust technique to minimize radiation exposure while maintaining image quality. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or service provider. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policy. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Ensures patients' questions and concerns are satisfactorily addressed. Participates in orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures. Maintains concise and legible documentation with precise terminology. Stocks linens and supplies, maintaining Diagnostic Imaging Services in clean and orderly condition. Transports and positions patients, aiding them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day of service delivery. Applies shielding and immobilization devices as necessary. Willingly shares knowledge and assistance upon request to ensure departmental efficiency. Performs routine clerical duties as necessary to ensure continuity of services. Keeps supervisors informed of ongoing responsibilities, ensuring prompt notification of any issues. Maintains productivity rate consistent with co-workers. Meets Joint Commission and other regulatory agency standards. Able to transfer and retrieve images on the PACS system. Takes call as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.
