Water Operator Technician

Tucson, SaddleBrooke, and Catalina Areas

Position Overview

JW Water is seeking a dependable and motivated Water Distribution Technician to join our team. This position supports the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities and distribution systems. Responsibilities include system maintenance and repairs, meter reading, water-quality sampling, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations.


The ideal candidate has mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn. Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor water treatment equipment to ensure safe and efficient performance.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and repair leaks within the water distribution system.
  • Inspect machinery and equipment and perform routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Read water meters and collect water-quality samples.
  • Collect, analyze, and document data related to water quality and treatment processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance.
  • Safely lift and move equipment and materials as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to identify problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Follow all safety procedures when operating vehicles, machinery, and heavy equipment.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency-response duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Previous experience in water operations, utility maintenance, plumbing, electrical work, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic equipment repairs.
  • Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and data collection.
  • Experience operating a backhoe is a plus.
  • Ability to safely lift and move heavy materials and equipment.
  • Familiarity with water treatment and distribution processes is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high operational standards.

  • Ability to follow instructions and established safety procedures.

Certification Requirements and Incentives

ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment and/or Water Distribution certification must be obtained during the first year of employment.


For each eligible ADEQ certification earned, the company provides:

  • A $1,000 certification bonus
  • A $1.00-per-hour pay increase
  • Reimbursement of testing fees after certification is completed


Compensation

Pay range: $23.00–$32.00 per hour

  • Entry-level candidates with no prior experience start at $23.00 per hour.
  • Compensation for candidates with relevant water operations, plumbing, electrical, or utility experience will be based on qualifications and experience.
  • Additional compensation opportunities are available for on-call and emergency response work.
