Job description

Title: Help Desk Analyst I 
Duration: 6 Months
Start Date: 01/19/2025
 

Work Mode: 100% Onsite in Augusta ME or Portland, ME– Local candidates only
 


Important Travel & Locality Requirement (URGENT)

This is an urgent requirement. Candidates must be local to Maine and willing to travel to surrounding court locations as needed.

Expected travel areas may include:

  • Machias, ME

  • Presque Isle, ME

  • Rockland, ME

  • West Bath / Bath, ME

Candidates must have their own reliable vehicle. Mileage will be reimbursed per state policy.

Job Overview

The Courtroom Technician (CT) is an entry-level technical support role providing hands-on IT support in courtrooms and courthouses across Maine. The CT works alongside IT specialists to support courtroom technology, staff devices, audiovisual systems, and remote hearings for Judicial Branch employees and courtroom participants.

The role requires strong customer service, communication skills, and the ability to work independently after training. The CT may be required to respond to after-hours emergency support. Most work will occur at a home-base courthouse, with frequent regional and occasional statewide travel.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide in-person and remote technical support for:

    • Desktop and laptop systems (Windows, macOS, etc.)

    • Printers and scanners

    • Audio/visual and presentation equipment

    • VOIP desk phones

    • Document cameras and audio listening equipment

  • Support and occasionally host remote video court proceedings

  • Diagnose and resolve Tier 1 help desk issues

  • Install, repair, and replace IT and courtroom equipment statewide

  • Support hardware and software used for electronic court recording

  • Maintain accurate hardware inventory records

  • Assist with documentation of procedures and operational workflows

  • Coordinate with OIT, vendors, and Judicial Branch staff

  • Prepare work orders and assist with IT training for staff and groups

  • Ensure systems operate securely and reliably

  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Required & Desired SkillsTop Required Skills
  • Experience supporting videoconferencing and audiovisual equipment

  • Basic working knowledge of audio equipment

  • Strong experience diagnosing and resolving Tier 1 technical issues

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Multi-platform support experience (Zoom, Windows, macOS, Google, Android, iOS, Unix preferred)

  • Ability to work in high-stress, live courtroom environments

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Ability to explain technical concepts in layman’s terms

  • Strong time management, organization, and prioritization skills

  • Willingness to learn and retain technical training

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
