THE POSITION
The Real Estate Appraisal Reviewer with the Department of Transportation plays a key role in supporting fair and accurate property valuations for public projects. This position offers meaningful work that helps guide important decisions related to right of way needs. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports real estate activities for transportation projects by reviewing appraisals and ensuring that valuation methods follow accepted standards. The role involves technical analysis, coordination, and documentation across assigned geographic areas. As a Real Estate Appraisal Reviewer, you will perform the following duties:
  • Appraisal Review: Examine real estate and equipment appraisals for accuracy and adherence to accepted techniques
  • Technical Guidance: Provide direction to ensure compliance with policies, requirements, and appraisal standards
  • Damage Evaluation: Determine compensable elements and estimate before and after values
  • Area Oversight: Manage appraisal review activities for assigned geographic areas
  • Document Tracking: Monitor documents in the Right of Way office and prepare monthly reports for review
  • Special Assignments: Complete additional tasks and attend meetings and training sessions as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will be located in the department headquarters in Harrisburg or at a district office closest to the incumbent's home, if space is available.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office). The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year as a General Real Estate Appraiser (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of professional real estate appraisal experience which includes one year appraising all types of real property for public use.

Special Requirements:
  • All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Certified General Appraiser certification.
  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
