Can you make a living as an entry level upholsterer?

Entry level upholsterers can make a living depending on their experience, location, and the demand for upholstery services. Starting salaries are typically lower, but with skill development and experience, earnings can increase, especially for those who work in commercial or custom upholstery shops. Many upholsterers also supplement income through side projects or by expanding their skills into related areas like furniture repair or design.

How much does an entry level upholsterer get paid?

Entry-level upholsterers typically earn between $10 and $15 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $20,000 to $30,000. Wages can vary based on location, experience, and the complexity of projects, and many entry-level positions offer on-the-job training and skill development.

Is there a demand for entry level upholsterers?

Entry level upholsterers are in steady demand in the furniture and automotive industries, especially as skilled craftsmanship remains valued. Opportunities often exist in manufacturing plants, repair shops, and custom upholstery businesses, with demand driven by new construction and renovation projects. Basic skills in sewing, fabric knowledge, and the use of hand tools are helpful for entry-level positions.
