About NISS

NISS is a full-service mining organization delivering world-class supplies, contract services, and operational support to the world's premier mining and industrial operations. Safety, professionalism, and efficiency are at the heart of everything we do. We invest in our people, providing top-tier training, clear career paths, and competitive compensation.

Position Overview

We are seeking entry level to experience Mine Electricians to join our field crew. The successful candidates will help operate core drilling rigs, supervise drilling assistants, maintain equipment, and ensure safe and efficient operations.

Mining operations run 24/7 on many projects — shifts include both day and night work. You must be ready to work in challenging locations and maintain a strong safety mindset.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical systems and equipment throughout the mine site.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical malfunctions and equipment failures by identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Apply electrical theory and technical knowledge to test, evaluate, and verify the operation of electrical machinery, control systems, and associated circuitry.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and repair motors, motor control devices, switchgear, panels, transformers, generators, pumps, mobile equipment, and other electrical equipment and components used in mining operations.
  • Work safely with and maintain systems operating at 480V three-phase, 240V, 120V AC, 24V DC, and 12V DC.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and electrical diagnostic and testing equipment to safely perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Complete assigned work orders, maintenance records, inspections, reports, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by conducting routine inspections and housekeeping activities throughout each shift.
  • Consistently follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, while remaining alert to hazards and changing conditions on mine property.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, contractors, and fellow team members to coordinate work and support operational needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing priorities and maintaining productivity.
  • Cross-train in multiple areas and perform a variety of tasks to support the maintenance team and overall operation.
  • Perform other duties and incidental tasks as assigned to successfully complete larger projects and operational objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Valid journeyman or state-recognized electrician license (preferred).
  • MSHA electrical certification/training (mandatory for underground work; NISS provides ongoing support and refreshers).
  • Underground miner certification or equivalent training/experience.
  • 3–10+ years of relevant experience in industrial electrical work, with underground mining highly preferred (experience in drilling support, labor contracting projects, or similar mining services a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of mining regulations, electrical codes, hazardous location equipment, and troubleshooting in dusty/confined environments.
  • Mechanical aptitude, welding/fabrication skills, and ability to work effectively in small, high-performance teams.
  • Physical fitness for demanding underground labor, including climbing, lifting, and extended shifts.
  • Valid driver's license, clean safety record, and ability to pass drug screening/background checks.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.; willingness to travel/deploy to project sites.
Work Schedule & Conditions

We offer flexible rotation schedules depending on project location and crew needs. Most roles follow rotations such as 4 on / 4 off, Monday–Friday, 14 on / 7 off, or 20 on / 10 off. We work with our electricians to align schedules that support both operational requirements and work-life balance.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive hourly wage
  • Overtime
  • Travel per diem when required
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, life, etc.)
  • Retirement plan / 401(k) or equivalent
  • Training and career development opportunities
