Job description

CADD Operator/Designer - Structural

  • Structures Group
  • Bozeman, Missoula, Helena, MT

Robert Peccia & Associates (RPA) is seeking a CADD Operator/Designer with Revit experience to support the preparation of structural models, drawings, and construction documents. This position will be primarily assigned to our Structures Group, working closely with structural engineers on residential, commercial, institutional, and public building projects. Depending on workload and experience, the successful candidate may also support RPA’s other engineering groups.

We welcome applicants ranging from recent graduates to experienced CADD professionals. The position may be filled at the CADD Operator, CADD Designer, or Senior CADD Designer level based on the selected candidate’s experience, technical proficiency, and ability to work independently.

As a Structural CADD Operator/Designer, you will support projects from early design through construction documentation. Responsibilities may include:

  • Structural Modeling: Develop and maintain Revit models for foundations, framing systems, walls, columns, and other structural components at Levels of Development (LOD) ranging from 100 through 400.
  • Construction Documents: Prepare structural plans, elevations, sections, schedules, and details by incorporating engineering sketches, calculations, markups, design revisions, and review comments.
  • Design Visualization: Develop presentation graphics and renderings, including enhanced Revit axonometric and elevation views, to communicate design intent, materials, finishes, colors, and anticipated finished appearances.
  • Coordination and Quality Control: Coordinate structural models and drawings with engineers, architects, and other design disciplines, and check project documents for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Revit Standards and Tools: Depending on experience, contribute to the development and improvement of RPA’s Revit standards, templates, families, drafting tools, and production workflows. Experienced candidates may also support staff training and knowledge sharing.
  • Project Support: Communicate with engineers and project managers regarding assignments, schedules, and technical questions, and provide CADD assistance to other RPA engineering groups as project needs require.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual who communicates effectively and works well in a collaborative environment. Key qualifications include:

  • Education: Associate degree in drafting or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience: Entry-level through senior-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Position level will be based on directly relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Revit Proficiency: Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit is required. Relevant Revit coursework or training will be considered for entry-level candidates.
  • Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret construction documents, engineering sketches, and markups. Familiarity with structural drawings, construction practices, and common building systems and materials, or a strong interest in learning, is preferred.
  • Additional Software: Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, or other engineering design applications is beneficial.
  • Professional Attributes: Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Culture Fit: Commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture and alignment with RPA’s Core Values.
