Role Overview
Condé Nast is seeking a Research Librarian to join our NYC-based global research hub, supporting 32 international markets across print, digital, video, and social platforms. This is an entry-level professional role within a three-person research team responsible for delivering high-quality research services to editorial, marketing, creative, and corporate stakeholders worldwide.
The Research Librarian will conduct both in-depth investigative research and rapid-response reference work across a broad subject portfolio, including fashion, beauty, health, finance, technology, pop culture, food, business, and breaking news. The role requires strong analytical skills, comfort working across international information landscapes, and fluency in evaluating diverse information sources for credibility and relevance.
The successful candidate will demonstrate methodological rigor, strong synthesis capabilities, and the ability to present findings in a clear, structured, and actionable format.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Information Delivery
  • Conduct domestic and international news, business, and topical research using authoritative databases and specialized research tools.
  • Perform ready-reference and deep-dive research under deadline pressure.
  • Support fact-checking, background research, market intelligence, and trend analysis initiatives.
Source Evaluation & Information Literacy
  • Evaluate sources for accuracy, authority, currency, bias, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Apply sound information governance principles when selecting and delivering research results.
  • Distinguish between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources and appropriately document findings.
Synthesis & Reporting
  • Compile research findings into structured briefs, annotated summaries, and organized source packages.
  • Provide explanatory context where needed to ensure usability by non-specialist stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate limitations, gaps, and confidence levels in research findings.
Tools & Resource Development
  • Develop working expertise in core research databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Factiva, ProQuest, business and media intelligence tools).
  • Utilize advanced search strategies across licensed databases, public records, open web, and social media platforms.
  • Monitor developments in research technology, including AI-assisted search and emerging specialized databases.
  • Identify potential new information resources and make acquisition recommendations.
Qualifications
Required
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLS, MLIS, or equivalent)
  • 1-3 years of relevant research experience (internships, academic research roles, media research, business intelligence, or professional services environments acceptable).
  • Experience using news and business databases such as LexisNexis, Factiva, or similar platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in structured database searching (e.g., Boolean logic, field searching, controlled vocabulary).
  • Demonstrated ability to assess source credibility and synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent research requests in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with social media research methodologies and digital verification techniques.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted research tools and prompt-based search systems.
  • Experience conducting public records research.
