Position Summary

We are always looking for hardworking and safety-minded individuals to join our fabrication and field teams as Specialty Welder I. This is an entry-level welding position supporting a wide range of steel projects across the U.S. The Specialty Welder I is responsible for performing basic welding tasks, maintaining high safety and quality standards, and developing their skills under the guidance of experienced welders and supervisors. This role requires regular travel to Sure Steel jobsites nationwide.


Key Responsibilities1. Welding Operations
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on structural steel components

  • Follow welding procedures and specifications to meet project and quality requirements

  • Operate welding equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with company standards

2. Material Preparation
  • Assist with cutting, grinding, and cleaning materials in preparation for welding

  • Set up welding stations and adjust equipment based on job-specific instructions

  • Support layout and assembly of components for welding

3. Quality Control
  • Inspect finished welds to identify and correct defects such as cracks or porosity

  • Maintain basic records of welding activity and inspection outcomes

  • Follow internal quality guidelines and participate in ongoing training

4. Safety and Compliance
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to all safety protocols

  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and emergency drills

  • Report safety hazards or incidents immediately to supervision

5. Equipment Maintenance
  • Conduct basic maintenance and cleaning of welding equipment and tools

  • Report malfunctioning or unsafe equipment to supervisors

  • Ensure tools and materials are properly stored and organized

6. Team Collaboration
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and project leads

  • Support other shop or field personnel as needed

  • Participate in training and development sessions to build technical skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required

  • Certified welding program or vocational training in welding preferred

  • Previous welding or fabrication experience preferred but not required

  • Familiarity with basic welding techniques and tools

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Good physical stamina and ability to lift/move materials up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be willing and able to travel to Sure Steel jobsites located throughout the United States

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
