Job description

Principal Purpose of Position:

To repair and maintain refrigeration equipment, air conditioning units, ventilation units, heating units including gas hot water heaters, and the installation of certain HVAC equipment.

Receives general instructions and location of unit to be repaired from supervisor.

Checks unit or system and diagnoses trouble.

Uses various test equipment in performance of function.

Plans repair procedure by analyzing site conditions, blueprints, sketches, and other available information.

Orders stocked parts directly from stores via requisition cards or pick list.

Consults with and assists supervision concerning special tools and non-stock materials and parts needed for the repair.

Makes necessary electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, pneumatic, and gas train system repairs.

After repair, tests unit or system and places it back in operation.

Responsible for maintaining all units at maximum efficiency.

Installs air conditioning units, handling the entire installation; including wiring, piping ductwork, mechanical work, etc., where feasible.

Responsible for proving that new air conditioning and heating systems installed by outside contractors perform according to specifications.

Uses aerial platform equipment when required.

Records job and time information on work orders, PM sheets, yellow cards, and other forms as required.

May be required to assist other maintenance personnel when deemed necessary by department supervision.

Provide technical assistance to Engineering in the design, repair, or improvement of equipment.

Uses maintenance information system to locate information on parts, equipment, etc.

Operates mobile equipment when required.

Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Observes safety rules and regulations.

Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by supervision.

Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
