Location : San Diego, CA
Duration : 12 Months

Work hours: 8 to 5 with ยฝ hour lunch and 15 minutes break twice a day.
3 Must haves:
1) Tissue culture sterile technique
2) Hybridoma cell culture
3) Centrifugation and/or Tangential Flow System experience
Job Description:
  • The Biochemist I is expected to work independently, perform all laboratory functions that involved in Tissue Culture such as Hybridoma roller bottle cell culture, ascites production, insect cell shaker culture, recombinant protein production, in-process assays, and safety procedures.
  • The Biochemist I is expected to learn sterile technique and make antibodies.
  • The biochemist I is expected to be capable to complete assigned tissue culture procedures with good quality by following SOPs and batch records.
  • The position is expected to perform data entries timely and properly.
  • The biochemist I is expected to learn more procedures regularly based on the production requirements.
  • The position is expected to finish assignments on time to help keep up Tissue Culture productivity.
  • In addition, biochemist I is responsible for completing their individual training plan based on the approved IIGs annually.
  • The position works closely with senior biochemist to ensure that the assignments are done properly before due dates.
  • The position will support and participate in continuous improvement projects as identified by the Executive Steering Committee and assigned by the manager.

Position Qualifications
Education:
  • Typically requires BS degree at a 4-year degree program in science or equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Work Experience:
  • Typically requires 0-2 years' experience in a Biotech/ Life Science manufacturing environment. Have some working knowledge in the science disciplines and operation of basic lab equipment.

Techniques Desired:

Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Demonstrated ability to use laboratory instruments and applicable computer software.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory safety
  • Effective interpersonal skills, verbal, and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep neat, accurate, complete, and legible records and logs.
  • Possess analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds weight.

Physical Requirements:
  • General physical requirements: Sedentary work
  • Visual acuity requirements: Inspection / Administrative.
  • Motion and sensory requirements: Talking, hearing, and walking.

Principal Accountabilities: (Prioritized Activities)
  • Implement and follow all new and current department policies and procedures per departmental SOP's and Batch Records for all manufacturing functions within the department.
  • Follow all departmental guidelines and procedures with minimal Departmental Supervision.
  • Maintain all manufacturing batch records.
  • Be able to perform data entry in all required data bases
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Responsibilities:
60-80% Operations / 40-20% technical training
  • Responsible for learning the sterile Tissue Culture technique to independently work under Biosafety hood.
  • Follow the Tissue Culture SOP to make different kinds of monoclonal antibody and cell related products by Hybridoma roller bottle cell culture and ascites production and other mammalian cell related products.
  • Follow the Tissue Culture SOP to perform insect cell shaker bioreactor for producing recombinant protein by using Baculovirus or E.coli expression system.
  • Complete Batch Records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow all SOP's and Work Instructions precisely
  • Perform clarification and concentration of Tissue Culture supernatant using the Tangential Flow system and /or centrifugation.
  • Perform in-process assays Nephelometer, Mycoalert and isotype ELISA.
  • Help maintain the cell bank inventory by accurate retrieval and placement of vials from LN2 freezer.
  • Promote a safe working environment. Follows client Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures.
  • Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area.
  • Participates in EH&S programs. Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
  • May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
