Role Overview 

Schumacher Hospitality is looking for a Design Coordinator to support our Hospitality design and account teams in New York City. This junior role is suited to someone who has a pro-active approach, a willingness to learn and collaborate, and is highly organized. This is an entry-level, on-site role well suited to a recent graduate with a design or textile background who wants hands-on experience in the hospitality and contract interiors industry. 

You will support the day-to-day design workflow for hospitality projects - from cutting for approval (CFA) requests through sampling, memo processing, design and sales coordination - working closely with Schumacher Hospitality's Designers, Projects Managers, and Schumacher's mills and facilities. 

You Will 

Strike Off and Cutting for Approval (CFA) Support 

  • Fulfill strike off and memo requests by cutting fabric, wallcovering, and trim swatches from current stock for designer and client approval ahead of full yardage orders 
  • Log, track, and prioritize incoming CFA requests to ensure fast, accurate turnaround for hospitality clients 
  • Verify colorway, pattern, and dye-lot accuracy before cuttings are labeled and shipped, relying on a sharp eye for color  
  • Package and ship CFAs to clients and design firms, and follow up with sales team with tracking and key information  
  • Take notes at design and product review meetings 

Sampling & Order Processing 

  • Cut and label memo samples of hospitality fabrics and wallcoverings for team and client review 
  • Process memo orders and sample yardage orders for design-related projects and development 
  • Coordinate sample shipments between mills, showrooms, and offices 

Design & Digital Asset Management 

  • Assist with scanning, organizing, and maintaining the digital library of design files, product samples, and memos 
  • Archive past designs and maintain organized version histories of custom artwork 
  • Liaise with Schumacher archival team for Hospitality custom design archiving process 
  • Learn Schumacher's Hospitality product range - fabric types, wallcoverings, and printing techniques - by working alongside the design team on live client projects 
  • Rescale and recolor design files 
  • Create design files in simple repeats 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Partner daily with designers, account managers, and project managers to support design and development work 
  • Assist the Design Director with collection development and project management 
  • Support the studio with administrative duties, such as setting up vendor meetings, submitting invoices, and general organization 
  • Communicate clearly with mills and print facilities on technical specifications and artwork and color samples 
  • Support general design, operations, and logistical tasks as needed 

You Are / Have 

  • A bachelor's degree (recent graduate welcome) in Interior Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, or a related field 
  • A good eye for color and pattern matching, with high attention to detail 
  • An understanding of, or strong interest in learning, repeats and color separations 
  • Proficient in using spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet) 
  • Proficient in design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator); experience with AVA is a plus 
  • A good understanding of and experience with techniques and production methods across all textile categories: prints, wovens, wallcoverings, and trims 
  • Strong conceptual and layout skills 
  • Previous experience in design, project or data management, or quality control is a plus 
  • Able to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize workload under pressure 
  • Able to follow directions and happily execute revisions with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 
  • A no-task-is-too-small attitude and a willingness to pitch in as needed 
  • Fast, efficient, and accurate - comfortable turning around a high volume of requests quickly without sacrificing quality 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent requests in a fast-paced environment 
  • A clear, professional communicator, comfortable working with internal teams and suppliers 
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive, solutions-focused approach 
  • A genuine passion for interior design, textiles, and the hospitality industry 
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, the New York City area; able to work on-site in our office 5 days per week
