OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking a Risk Counsel for our Risk Management Department in Chicago, IL. The Risk Counsel oversees and manages litigation and claims within the Company's insured Portfolio. In doing so, they work hand in hand with our insurance partners and outside counsel to drive solutions and manage the insured claim portfolio. The Risk Counsel position will also be responsible for underwriting Owner contracts as necessary and relaying analysis to upper management about contractual risk shifting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and oversee all pending litigation which involves insurance coverage, including but not limited to General Liability, Auto Liability, Builder's Risk, and Equipment claims.
  • Analyze claims/litigation to effectively participate in decisions related to resolution strategy
  • Manages all vendors involved in the claims processes.
  • Participating in mediations and negotiating settlements
  • Review and provide analysis on coverage implications of pending matters, including the management of coverage litigation where necessary
  • Ensure claim files are properly documented in Origami Risk Management System.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and bidding procedures related to contractual underwriting
  • Identify to senior staff and project sponsorship all contractual risk that does not fall into Walsh's acceptable risk profile.
  • Perform all legal related tasks to protect the interest of the company and mitigate risk.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school, license to practice law in good standing in at least one (1) state
  • 2-4 years of legal experience, with special consideration for construction related experience
  • Minimal physical requirements, ability to travel as necessary
  • Salary: $104,000 - $155,000
