About Us

The Flyover is one of the fastest-growing newsletter media companies in the country, delivering unbiased news to millions of readers every day. Behind that reach is a technology team that builds and owns the tools, pipelines, and internal systems that keep the whole operation running. We prioritize building custom solutions from the ground up, which gives our developers real ownership and a steady stream of things to learn.

Position Overview

We are hiring an entry-level Software Developer to support our teams by building and maintaining the internal tools they rely on every day. This is a hands-on role for someone early in their career who wants to write real code that real people use, learn how a live data pipeline actually works, and grow alongside an experienced technology team.

You will not be sitting on the sidelines. From your first weeks, you will be shipping tooling, fixing real problems in our ETL pipeline, and adding features that make other teams faster. It is a great role for someone who learns by doing and wants mentorship while they do it.

Key Responsibilities

•      Build tooling for teams: Work with editorial, audience, sales, and operations teams to build the internal tools that make their work faster and more reliable.

•      Maintain the ETL pipeline: Troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain the data pipeline that powers our daily operations, keeping it running smoothly and fixing issues as they come up.

•      Extend existing tools: Add features and improvements to the tools and systems we already run, based on what teams need.

•      Collaborate across the company: Partner with non-technical teammates to understand their problems and translate them into working solutions.

•      Write clean code and keep learning: Produce maintainable, well-organized code and continuously build your skills with support from senior engineers.

QualificationsRequired

•      0 to 2 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent project, internship, or bootcamp experience.

•      Working knowledge of Python.

•      Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.

•      A genuine desire to learn, a collaborative mindset, and comfort asking questions.

•      Strong problem-solving instincts.

Nice to Have

•      Exposure to web frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.

•      Any experience with ETL or data pipelines.

•      Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms.

•      Understanding of asynchronous programming.

Our Stack

Languages and core tools

•      Python (primary), SQL

Web and services

•      FastAPI, Flask

•      Internal applications and APIs we own end to end

Data and orchestration

•      PostgreSQL, with some NoSQL

•      AWS

•      Docker

You are not expected to know all of this on day one. You are expected to be curious about it.

Why Join Us

•      Write code that real teams use from your very first weeks.

•      Learn how a live, production data pipeline works from the people who built it.

•      Be supported by an experienced technology team invested in your growth.

•      Join a fast-growing company with a massive and expanding audience.

•      Competitive salary plus health, dental, and vision insurance paid 100% by the company.

•      Paid time off, holidays, and support for professional development.

If you are early in your development career and want to learn fast, ship real work, and grow with a strong team, we would love to hear from you.

  • Application Process: Submit your resume and a brief note about something you have built or a problem you enjoyed solving, even if it was a school or personal project.
