Job Description RCS Staffing has an immediate need for a Design Engineer I in Charlotte, NC. This is a full-time contract-to-hire On-Site assignment with our client. This position offers a competitive package including benefits, vacation and holidays.

Overview of YOUR role as a Design Engineer I As a Design Engineer I, you will perform lighting design for utility infrastructure projects while working directly with customers and clients to provide excellent customer service. This role combines office-based design work with approximately 30% field work throughout the year, including field visits, damage assessments, and support for storm restoration efforts. You will be responsible for translating customer requirements into quality designs while maintaining strong relationships and supporting critical utility operations during weather events.

As a Design Engineer I YOU will: Perform lighting design for utility infrastructure projects Work directly with customers and clients, providing excellent customer service and technical guidance Conduct field visits to assess site conditions and project requirements Perform damage assessments and support storm restoration efforts as needed Prepare design drawings and documentation for lighting projects Support approximately 30% field work and storm response activities throughout the year Spend approximately 70% of time in the office performing design and technical work Collaborate with project teams and utility stakeholders on design solutions Document findings and provide recommendations for design and construction Participate in storm response activities when called upon YOU are the ideal Design Engineer I candidate if you have: Entry-level Engineering degree or equivalent experience as an experienced Design Technician Prior experience in construction, utility, or pipeline industry (preferred) Must be local to the Charlotte, NC area and able to work 100% onsite (required) Strong customer service and communication skills (required) Comfortable working in both office and field environments Willingness to participate in storm response activities as needed Basic proficiency with computer aided design or GIS tools Ability to conduct field assessments and gather project information Professional demeanor and strong attention to detail Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites It's a BONUS if you have: Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software GIS design and mapping experience Experience with utility lighting design standards Previous storm restoration or emergency response experience Familiarity with utility industry codes and standards Project coordination or customer management experience Advanced technical skills in design software platforms About Our CLIENT Our Client is a national engineering and consulting firm with over 3,100 professionals dedicated to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions for utilities, infrastructure, and industrial clients.
