Position Overview: We're hiring for a System Engineer to work on site at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. In this position you'll become part of technically diverse team to include but not limited to Help Desk Specialists, Network Engineers, System Administrators, and Database Professionals. Together this team provides IT Operations and Support to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) which is responsible for training Law Enforcement Professionals from over 90 different agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, databases, and virtualization
  • Responsible to maintain and troubleshoot foundational technologies such Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, SSL certificates, IIS, SQL Server, etc.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Secure and harden Windows Servers and SQL Server in accordance with NIST 800-53 requirements
  • Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures that can be tested and validated regularly
  • Provide support to application administrators, troubleshooting server and database-related issues
  • Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance
  • Implement and manage high availability solutions for applications, servers, databases, such as failover clustering and SQL Server Always On
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of server and database configurations, procedures, and policies. Generate and present reports on server and database performance, security compliance, and other key metrics.
  • Manage and integrate on-premises applications, servers, and SQL Server databases with Azure and other cloud-based solutions.

Requirements
  • Minimum of three years of experience with both Windows Server and SQL Server administration.
  • Familiarity with virtual environments such as Broadcom VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) including building and configuring virtual servers and private cloud infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments, particularly Azure SQL and related services.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-53 requirements and security best practices. Demonstrated experience in securing and hardening SQL Server databases and Windows servers.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
  • Relevant certifications like Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics, CompTIA Security+ are a plus.

  • No security clearance required; Secret Clearance Preferred
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must pass a Federal Law Enforcement Background Investigation
